Meghan McCain did not come to play today on The View. The conservative firebrand began sparring with her co-hosts within minutes, and by the end of the second Hot Topics segment, she was visibly upset — not to mention audibly, as she could be heard huffing into her mic for minutes. At one point, McCain even snapped at an audience member, interrupting her point about how Democrats should “be smarter” to say, “Someone’s phone is going off.” A long weekend is just a few days away, guys.
The women of The View came out swinging today during a discussion of former White House Counsel Don McGahn. Co-host Joy Behar slammed the “unbelievably corrupt” Trump administration, saying, “The Republican party is right behind him. They all should be thrown into jail, as far as I’m concerned. Lock them up!” McCain immediately took offense to Behar’s characterization of the Republican party. “If you’re going to say that all Republicans should be in jail — all of them — then you should put Pelosi [in] as well,” said McCain. “If all Republicans should go to jail for not doing impeachment, then Democrats should be held to the same standard, as well.”
Behar pushed back, saying that she was using “hyperbole,” but McCain didn’t let up. “It doesn’t sound that way to the Republican at the table,” she said. “It sounds a little aggressive.” She went on to bring up Trump’s Montoursville, Pennsylvania campaign rally last night, which was attended by 10,000 people. “How did he get 10,000 with a population of 4,000?” asked Sunny Hostin, half-kidding. “I’m sure people drove there,” snapped McCain. When Behar and Hostin continued to joke about the rally size, McCain threw up her hands and shook her head. “Fine,” she said, clearly annoyed.
About a minute later, McCain took her frustration out on the audience. “The illegal activity that you’re speaking of — I’ll wait until everyone’s done applauding,” she said, shooting daggers at The View‘s guests. A phone then went off in the crowd, prompting McCain to interrupt her thought and snap, “Someone’s phone is going off.”
After the commercial break, The View picked up the discussion once again. When Hostin asked McCain if she likes Biden more than the other Democratic candidates, the conservative co-host exploded. “Everyone knows I like Joe Biden,” she fired back. “I’m not changing your minds this morning. And honestly, I’ve said all I have to say.” McCain was absolutely silent for the next three minutes, during which she could be heard repeatedly huffing into her microphone. Finally, at the end of the segment, she chimed in, saying that Justin Amash, the first Republican congressman to call for Trump’s impeachment, “is a hardcore libertarian.”
