Kanye West Slams “Liberals” for Treating Trump Supporters “Like Enemies in America”

Kanye West is known for giving off-the-rails interviews, but in an upcoming episode of his Netflix talk show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, David Letterman managed to rein in the rapper — somewhat. According to The Daily Beast‘s Matt Wilstein, who has seen the episode, West and Letterman discuss everything from his Yeezy clothing line to his Sunday Service to his vocal support of President Trump. Letterman pressed West on the Trump issue, but the star remained firm, saying that Trump voters are “treated like enemies of America.” Exclaimed West, “Liberals bully people who are Trump supporters!”

The Daily Beast reports that Letterman did not mention Trump until West did himself (Letterman followed a similar strategy in his Season 1 interview with Barack Obama). “This is like my thing with Trump — we don’t have to feel the same way, but we have the right to feel what we feel,” said West during a discussion about the #MeToo movement. The rapper explained that his “Make America Great Again” hat is “not about politics,” but is instead meant to show the world that it’s okay to express a positive opinion about Trump. That, in and of itself, sounds political, but who am I to say.

“Did you vote for Trump?” asked Letterman. “I’ve never voted in my life,” replied West. “Then you don’t have a say in this,” replied the My Next Guest Needs No Introduction host to cheers from the audience.

According to The Daily Beast, West then began talking about his call to “abolish the 13th amendment.” Letterman countered by bringing up voter suppression, an argument his guest all but ignored. Rather than engage on the issue, the rapper said that he empathizes with conservatives who are “treated like enemies in America because that’s what they felt,” and continued to bypass the host’s valid points.

“Have you ever been beat up in your high school for wearing the wrong hat?” asked West during the tense back-and-forth. “Liberals bully people who are Trump supporters!”
