New Movies on Demand: ‘Five Feet Apart,’ ‘A Madea Family Funeral,’ ‘The Upside,’ and More

Who doesn’t love a three-day weekend moment? That’s exactly what we’re getting because Memorial Day is coming up! That means you’ve got another 24 hours to fill with all the friends, family, and food you can handle. And when you get tired of high five-ing your best buds over a paper plate of hot dogs, you can retreat indoors and watch a movie or eight! Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s on demand service, there are a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover.

This weekend you can check out new movies starring John Travolta (the car racing film Trading Paint) and Julianne Moore (Gloria Bell, a dramedy about a woman getting her groove back in LA night clubs). There’s also the Tim Tebow-produced football drama Run the Race, and the Australian ensemble film Ladies in Black starring Angourie Rice, Rachael Taylor, and Julia Ormond. Available to rent this holiday weekend are the Kevin Hart/Bryan Cranston feel-good movie The Upside, the Rebel Wilson romcom Isn’t It Romantic?, and the animated trilogy closer How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of family comedies, action thrillers, and foreign films!

Five Feet Apart

Ready for your heartstrings to be played like an acoustic guitar? Teen romance Five Feet Apart will do that! Cole Sprouse (Riverdale) and Haley Lu Richardson (Support the Girls) play a star-crossed couple, patients in a hospital both diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and thus must maintain a distance of five feet from each other at all times. Can love blossom when you can’t be close to the person you most want to be close to? Find out in Five Feet Apart, but be prepared to have a lot of emotions.

Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral

Forget Avengers: Endgame, this is the final Madea movie, y’all! The 10th (!) installment in the long-running comedy franchise came to a close with this mournful installment–well, as mournful as a Madea movie can be. You know there’s gonna be a lot of tea spilled and lots of laughs, along with some moments that’ll get you right in the heart if you’ve been following these characters for the last 14 years. You can purchase A Madea Family Funeral right now or you can rent it for a fraction of the cost on June 4.

Wild Wild West

Just in case you can’t make it out to the movie theater every weekend to take in all the hot hot summer blockbusters, here’s one you can watch from the comfort of your own couch (and AC). Will Smith’s streak as the King of Summer was broken when this under-performer opened in 1999, but what a difference 20 years makes! Wild Wild West is a bizarre western romp starring one of the most charismatic actors ever. Is it worth the price of a full movie ticket? Debatable. Is it worth a $0.99 rental? Oh, sure! And once you rewatch this movie, you can finally answer for yourself which is better, Wild Wild West or Wild Wild Country?
