41 Iconic Choni Scenes From ‘Riverdale’ Season 3 You Must Watch Right Now

Let’s get this out of the way up front. I don’t know what the deal is exactly with Netflix Canada’s time codes, but they don’t quite line up with our American versions. I assume the recaps at the beginning of the episodes take a little longer, because they keep politely apologizing for bothering the viewer?

Regardless, after a long, anxious Summer, Choni stans headed to their couches, ready to see their fave couple… Talk about Archie Andrews (KJ Apa)? In was an inauspicious start to the season, but the over the top poolside outfits made up for the shortfall.

Okay, I’m starting to think those Canadians are smoking something stronger than the gouda in their poutine*, because there are no Choni scenes in Episode 2, as noted in the tweet. References to their “iconic” road trip out West over the summer, sure. But the two don’t appear together again until approached by Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) in the student lounge to the opening of La Bonne Nuit in Episode 3.

*I’m aware poutine uses cheddar cheese curds, not gouda. Everybody calm down.

More Veronica/Choni action, as the former approaches the latter in the middle of a photo sesh in order to find Jughead… But they end up instead working together to find blackmail on Penny Peabody’s (Brit Morgan) Jingle Jangle business. Also of note? The return of Veronica’s ludicrous “stealth” suit.

Next up? An extended shot as Cheryl and Toni enter La Bonne Nuit dressed in night-time finery. It’s a fake-out single shot (since La Bonne Nuit isn’t actually under Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe), but it’s a fun focus on the couple. And as a bonus, it ends with some Instagram ad integration, a fun riff on Petsch’s real life powerful social presence.

After having a tent rendezvous (Cheryl’s words, not ours) interrupted by fellow gang members Sweet Pea (Jordan Connor) and Fangs (Drew Ray Tanner), Jughead convinces ol’ Deadeye Blossom to show off her sharpshooter skills with the bow and arrow.

There’s a bit of Choni goodness before this as Jughead takes his gang members to play a game of Gryphons and Gargoyles (the evil role playing game that consumes Riverdale in Season 3), but we’re gonna assume you want to skip right to their happy smoocheroo.

It’s a blink and you miss it moment, but after there’s a faux-viral outbreak at Riverdale High, every cheerleader is knocked down for the count except Cheryl*, who rushes to the side of her lady love Toni.

*Hey, why was Cheryl spared again? You know what, never mind.

So many iconic moments in this scene, as Cheryl dotes on the fallen Toni: Cheryl asking Toni to move in with her; Cheryl saying “I’m cuckoo bananas for you, obvi”; and Toni insisting on being the big spoon.

See, Choni is in bed, but it’s not like sexy in bed, it’s like snuggling in bed because the town has been put under quarantine. Also it doesn’t seem to impact the town in any particular way when they pick up in the next episode? Eh, whatever, this moment is cute.

With the town (sort of) under lockdown, Cheryl and Toni take the opportunity to turn into cat burglars and hook up on a pile of money. This gets immediately followed by the duo walking through the halls of school holding hands, and then another scene of them heading to La Bonne Nuit. Three scenes in a row? Are we dreaming???

After Cheryl semi-accidentally outs Moose (Cody Kearsley), Toni confronts her in the bathroom in a scene Cheryl, teary-eyed, realizes is their first fight. It’s well-acted, well-written, and finally gives Toni a chance to explain her perspective on life to her girlfriend. One of the best conversation scenes the couple has on the series, and a turning point all around.

It’s such an awkward, important moment, we ranked it pretty high on our list of every Riverdale musical number!

Cheryl turns the tables by heading to La Bonne Nuit in a slinky red dress, and obviously casing the joint in front of Toni. If they keep fighting like this, we’re gonna need several bellinis.

Cheryl shows up at La Bonne Nuit later on to rob the place. Toni shows up. Cheryl asks if Toni is gonna cuff her. And in a scene that is surely catering to some very specific kinks, a graphic-by-CW standards sex scene ensues, intercut with Archie bleeding and beating up a bunch of dudes at a boxing tournament. Light bondage? Lesbian sex? Bleeding men? I don’t know who greenlit this sequence, but thank you.

Speaking of bleeding, this scene leads directly into Cheryl and Toni breaking up in la Bonne Nuit post-sex, and it’s like a knife in the gut.

This is another episode you should probably just watch all of, but if you want to watch the Choni specific bits, you can zoom ahead to one of the episode’s big musical numbers, “Candy Store.” We get a touch of the broken-up duo earlier as Toni is introduced as choreographer for the school’s “Heathers: The Musical” production; but the first big showdown between the two is this number, as Toni and Cheryl both try to choreograph at the same time, complete with incredible hair-whip sound effects and serious dance battling.

Round two finds Toni walking into Riverdale High dressed in red, Cheryl’s signature color. Cheryl goes nuclear, and Toni launches into another musical number, “Dead Girl Walking.” Though most of the second half is Toni solo, it leads to a powerful moment where Toni — about to have a threesome — is halted by the vision of the Cheryl you loves, not the HBIC destroying her from orbit.

Having seen that vision of the Cheryl she loves, Toni goes to her bedroom and asks her amour what she thinks love is. It’s a revealing moment that leads to the couple’s reconciliation, an honest conversation that at this point was long overdue. It also leads into another musical number, “Seventeen,” a quartet with Jughead and Betty as they all lament that they just want to be teens again, doing teen things.

Having gotten back together, Cheryl and Toni blot each other’s lipstick in the dressing room… On each other’s lips. Awwww.

It’s Junior Prom time at Riverdale High, and of course Cheryl and Toni are manning the booth selling tickets, gossiping about Veronica and Archie’s relationship and stumping for Prom Queen.

Cheryl, Toni, Fangs and Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) are all having breakfast at The Farm with Betty, when it’s revealed that they’re getting “procedures” done. Spoiler, they’re having their organs stolen. Breakfast continues as normal, regardless, because it’s Riverdale.

Betty still wants to prove the whole organ stealing thing is bad, so confronts the rest of The Farmies, including Cheryl and Toni, who are getting cosy on the couch.

Cheryl is convinced of the whole organ stealing thing when she sees a few organs that have been stolen, and immediately runs to go rescue Toni. This intercuts with Betty trying to get Kevin and Fangs out, but keep watching because Toni and Cheryl’s escape scene is absolutely emotionally devastating. Trapped by two doctors, Cheryl closes the window on Toni and holds off their attackers, giving her girlfriend time to escape. Tears, so many tears.

While Toni musters her forces to rescue Cheryl, Ms. Blossom manages to escape on her own, and they share a tearful reunion back at their home of Thornhill.

There’s a brief hand touch at the time noted above, which leads right into Choni, Bughead (Betty and Jughead), and Varchie (Veronica and Archie) heading to find Kevin, who is sitting alone now that everyone else at The Farm has “ascended,” whatever that means.
