Will Smith, ‘Aladdin’ Cast Perform Musical In The Middle Of LA Traffic With James Corden

On Thursday night’s episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, the CBS host recruited the stars of Disney‘s live-action adaptation of Aladdin to bring a musical to the streets of Los Angeles in his latest hilarious segment of “Crosswalk the Musical.”

James first meets up with his theater troupe dressed as the Genie, complete with blue face paint, confident that his crew could guess the show they would be performing. As a frustrated Corden deflected guesses such as Avatar, the “Blue Man Crew” and The Smurfs, he finally yells: “Why would it be the fucking Smurfs? You ruined it! We’re doing Aladdin!”

The group was then joined by the 2019 film’s stars Naomi Scott (Princess Jasmine) and Mena Massoud (Aladdin) who would be taking their respective roles, however, Will Smith was nowhere in sight. Corden, dressed as Genie, was ready to proceed until Smith showed up.

“I’m the genie in the movie man. It’s obvious,” Smith said, to which a reluctant Corden replied, “You may be Aladdin on the silver screen but this is live theater.” Smith then suggested that Corden would make a better Abu the monkey than Genie. “I’m not in a million years playing a monkey,” Corden insisted, however, he ultimately conceded as the clip fades to the late night host wearing a monkey suit.

Now finally ready to perform, the complete cast of this very special edition of “Crosswalk the Musical” assembled in the middle of an LA street, right outside Corden’s studio, with Smith singing to the tune “Friend Like Me” from the film. The hilarious performance featured impressive choreography and even some fire, however, most of the drivers stuck in traffic seemed less than impressed.

The group, proud of their performance, praised Will Smith with a “Will” chant, which a defeated Corden declined to participate in. “Everyone did great,” said Corden bitterly. “I’m glad I came up with him.”

The group then performed two more songs from the feature film, “Prince Ali” and “A Whole New World,” the latter of which featured the stars sitting on a rug and singing as they were hilariously lifted into the air on a forklift by a construction worker.

After the cast sang Smith’s praises once again, Corden reached his boiling point. “I’m the stupid naughty monkey,” Corden said to Smith, with the Academy Award nominee replying “No, you’re charming. You’re mischievous. Abu is mischievous. You’re both handsome little devils.”

At the conclusion of their frantic performances, Smith and Corden reflected on the tumultuous experience. “We rubbed the lamp and what came out is a friendship that I will cherish forever,” said Corden. “You ain’t never had a friend like me,” Smith replied.
