All those shows you see on Netflix that you’ve never heard of? Decider’s whole gig is to give you the details you need to know about a new show–and this time around, the show is Black Spot.

If you’ve streamed supernatural thrillers like The OA and Stranger Things or legacy titles like The X-Files and Twin Peaks on Netflix, then odds are Netflix put Black Spot front and center in your recommendations over the weekend. **What is Black Spot on Netflix?**

Although it originally aired in France back in April 2017 as Zone Blanche, Season 1 of Black Spot just hit Netflix on May 31. The series is set in the secluded fictional town of Villefranche, a small town with an astronomical murder rate. At the forefront of the series is Major Laurène Weiss, the head of the country police in charge of investigating the murder of a woman found hanging from a mysterious tree. But, as it turns out, that’s just the tip of the spooky iceberg in Villefranche. The investigation leads Weiss to details of her own kidnapping 20 years ago, details she never expected. With the murders and strange phenomena increasing, a new prosecutor is sent to investigate–a man named Franck Siriani, who has a few peculiarities of his own.

Season 1 consists of 8 hourlong episodes chronicling the deepening mysteries of Villefranche. Fun fact about the title: “black spot” refers to the fact that mobile phones and GPS don’t work in the town of Villefranche.

**Who is in the cast of Black Spot on Netflix?**

Weiss and Siriani are played by Suliane Brahim and Laurent Capelluto, respectively. The rest of the cast includes Hubert Delattre, Samuel Jouy (Sparring, Burn Out), Renaud Rutten, Camille Aguilar, Tiphaine Daviot, Naidra Ayadi (He Even Has Your Eyes), Brigitte Sy, Anne Suarez (Standing Tall), Dan Herzberg, Olivier Bonjour, and Thomas Doret (The Unknown Girl).

**Where is Black Spot filmed?**

The French series was filmed in Belgium and in the Vosges, a mountain range in eastern France that’s close to Germany.
