Sunny Hostin Slams “History of Pedophilia in the Catholic Church” on ‘The View’: “A Pride Parade is Much Safer”

The View‘s resident shit-starters Meghan McCain and Joy Behar may have been out today, but that didn’t stop things from getting fiery at the Hot Topics table. On Monday morning, Sunny Hostin delivered a passionate monologue about the LGBTQ Pride Month, which one Catholic bishop recently claimed is “harmful for children.” Hostin, who is Catholic, slammed the bishop’s remarks, saying that “given the history of pedophilia” in the Church, “being at a Pride parade would be much safer for a child than it has been to be in a Catholic Church for many years.”

Hostin’s remarks came in response to a tweet from Bishop Thomas Tobin, who said that “Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June,” as they “promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals” and are “harmful for children.” Hostin, who has been vocal about her relationship to Catholicism in the past, wasted no time before denouncing the bishop’s statement. “My faith always taught me, what would Jesus do? And I know Jesus would be attending that pride parade — with pride,” said the co-host.

“And I also know that God is love, and Jesus is love, and love is love,” continued Hostin. “For a Catholic bishop to come out and say something like that, given the history of pedophilia in the Catholic Church, given what the Catholic Church has hidden about the abuse of children — some would say that being at a Pride parade would be much safer for a child than it has been to be in a Catholic Church for many years.”

Hostin’s passionate speech earned her a massive round of applause from the audience, as well as a few rings on Whoopi Goldberg’s bell. “I say that as a practicing Catholic that has been challenged by the scandals in the Catholic Church,” she said, adding that she “almost left the Catholic Church” due to the child abuse scandal.

Goldberg also had some choice words to share during Pride Month. “Always be proud of who you are,” said The View‘s longtime moderator. “God does not make mistakes.”
