‘Us’ is Now on Digital, So Tell Your Tethered It’s Time For a Movie Night

Good news for anyone looking to be scared out of their freakin’ minds today: Jordan Peele‘s 2019 horror film Us, is now available for purchase on digital platforms, including Amazon, iTunes, or wherever you care to purchase your streaming content.

If you missed Us when it was in theaters in March, first of all, I’m sorry, because watching that film in a packed theater of rowdy Jordan Peele fans was one of the most enjoyable theater-going experiences I’ve had. Unlike Get Out, Peele’s first feature that starred Daniel Kaluuya as a black man who goes to stay with his white girlfriend’s family, Us is a much more straight-forward horror film.

Lupita N’yongo stars as Adelaide Wilson, a mother who reluctantly takes her family on a beach vacation, despite the fact that she once had a traumatic experience at the beach as a child. Lupita N’yongo also stars as Red, Adelaide’s “tethered,” AKA an evil doppelganger who was forced to experience a torturous version of Adelaide’s life and is seeking revenge. Everyone in the family has a doppelganger: The dad (Winston Duke), the daughter (Shahadi Wright Joseph) and the son (Evan Alex). As the family quickly realizes, it’s not just them, but also their white friends (Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker), and indeed, the entire world. The film goes from cabin-in-the-woods horror to full on zombie-apocalypse horror.

Though perhaps not quite as buzzed about as Get Out, Us was undoubtedly a critical hit (it holds a 94 percent on the review aggregation site, Rotten Tomatoes) and a box office success (it brought in $254.5 million at the worldwide box office, making it the fourth highest-grossing R-rated horror film of all time). It’s still too early to know how Us will fare in the 2019 awards season, but we’re guessing it will get at least a few nods.

If you’re looking for nightmare-inducing Tuesday night plans, you can purchase Us on Amazon, iTunes or wherever you buy your digital content for $19.99. This reporter recommends you watch with all the lights in your apartment on. And with a friend.
