Marvel’s hard-drinkin’ and hard-punchin’ private eye is back. Jessica Jones Season 3 is now on Netflix, picking up the pieces left by that bruising season finale last year. The stakes are even higher this time around, as it’s the final outing for not only Jones but Netflix’s entire corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s the end of an era, and it’s going out with a swagger.
Jones isn’t alone for her last case, either. Cast members Rachael Taylor and Eka Darville are back as her erstwhile sidekicks Trish and Malcolm, and Carrie-Anne Moss returns as the morally dubious Jeryn Hogarth. There are also a number of new cast members, including Ben Walker as a new powered person and Jeremy Bobb in the villain role. There’s also a new character in Jess’ life, whether she likes it or not, and her name is Gillian.
Who is Gillian on Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 3?
When last we left Jessica Jones, she was begrudgingly contemplating doing that whole hero thing, what with it kinda being her mom’s dying wish and all. Season 3 picks up some time later and Jones is doing just that–being a hero, that is. She’s taking cases pro-bono and trying to put her super powers to good use between downing bottles of whiskey. This new setup means that for the first time in a long time, Alias Investigations is actually up-and-running–and it even has an employee!
That employee is Jones’ assistant Gillian, a well-dressed woman with all of Jessica’s snark as well as all the people skills that Jessica lacks. She doesn’t work past 5 p.m., she has interesting taste in couches, and she’s come up with an Alias Investigations slogan much to Jones’ chagrin: “You’ve got a hero on your side now.” With Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor) out of the picture following what Jess feels was a bloody betrayal in the Season 2 finale, Gillian is probably the only person in Jess’ life that’s actually standing up to her as well as acting as a sounding board. Gillian isn’t just a one-off character, either; it’s no spoiler to say that she’s one of the recurring characters of Season 3.

Who plays Gillian on Marvel’s Jessica Jones?
Gillian is played by Aneesh Sheth, a performer and trans activist with lots of acting experience on stage and on screen. She had a recurring role on the NBC medical drama New Amsterdam and appeared in episodes of High Maintenance on HBO and Difficult People on Hulu.
Sheth is the latest in a line of standout trans performers that have appeared on Netflix’s Marvel shows. Before she was the star of FX’s acclaimed drama Pose, Mj Rodriguez appeared in the Luke Cage Season 1 flashback episode “Manifest,” and Difficult People’s Shakina Nayfack played a pawn shop owner in the Jessica Jones Season 2 episode “AKA Pray for My Patsy.”
Gillian, as a full-fledged employee of Alias Investigations, appears in most of Season 3, giving her the biggest spotlight a trans actor has had in a Marvel series to date.
All of Jessica Jones Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
