This year HBO has doubled down on the most fabulous show on television. Based on the novel by Liane Moriarty and directed by David E. Kelley, Big Little Lies was originally supposed to be a seven-episode miniseries. However, the drama about passive aggressive insults, white lies, and murder was such a big hit the network quickly renewed it for a second season.
This time around the ladies of Monterey aren’t moving toward murder. They’re trying to cover up one they’ve already committed. But who exactly is the new man in Jane’s life and how does he connect to this twisting world? Here’s everything you need to know about Corey.
Who Is Corey in Big Little Lies?
Jane’s (Shailene Woodley) co-worker at the aquarium is more than just some random guy who knows too much. Judging by Big Little Lies‘ second episode it also seems like Corey Brockfield is Jane’s new love interest. At the moment all we know about Corey is that he knows a lot about sea animals, likes to surf, is good with kids, and knows an unnerving amount about the Monterey Five, aka the five women who were present the night of Perry Wright’s (Alexander Skarsgård) death.

We also know that Jane thinks he’s a bit weird because she’s told him that to his face. Sure, that was a bit rude of Jane; but in her defense Corey comes on strong and has some weird opening lines. He’s no Tom from the Blue Blues Cafe, but he seems nice.

What Else Has Douglas Smith Been In?
Smith may be new to Big Little Lies, but he’s not new to HBO. Smith is likely best known for starring in HBO’s show about a fundamentalist Mormon family, Big Love. In the series he played Ben, the oldest son of polygamist Bill Henrickson. He’s also starred in the supernatural horror movie The Bye Bye Man as well as in The Alienist as Marcus Isaacson.
