Good news! Riverdale is coming back to The CW on October 9. Bad news! There are still over three months until Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and the gang return to our screens. But happily, Archie Comics is filling that gap with their excellent “Riverdale Season 3” comic book, which tells stories between the scenes of the show, filling in fun details that fans never got to see in live action.
Take, for example, “Riverdale Season 3 #4,” which features two stories fans of the show were asking a lot about while the season aired. The first features Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) out on a date with Jughead (Cole Sprouse) before getting mixed up in a surprising deal with a character she never really got to interact with on the show. The second is a fun tale of Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Reggie (Charles Melton) getting caught up in some high seas terror. The couple may have lost Best Kiss at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, but for those who felt the relationship was abbreviated on screen (Melton had to head off to film Bad Boys 3), it’s nice to see them back in action one more time.
The comic is written by Micol Ostow, who has also been penning the novel adaptations of the series (including the October debuting “The Maple Murders“). Art duties go to Thomas Pitilli, Joe Eisma, Janice Chiang, John Workman, and Andre Szymanowicz. And if you’re enjoying this comic, I’ve got some more bad news: there’s only one more issue after this one… Which makes sense, because once Season 4 hits on screen, our questions will turn away from Season 3 to newer climes.
