‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Trailer: Get Ready for Netflix’s Summer Blockbuster

Get ready for the blockbuster event of the summer. Late Thursday, Netflix dropped the final trailer for Stranger Things Season 3, which establishes a decidedly darker tone than the preceding teasers. Not that we don’t love the new Starcourt Mall and Billy’s summer bod — we do, obviously — but this is the Stranger Things Season 3 trailer we’ve been waiting for in all its action-packed glory. Things are getting dark in Hawkins, Indiana, so you’d better prepare yourself for the July 4th binge-watch to end all binge-watches.

Netflix’s three-minute trailer reunites the kids (who are definitely now closer to being teens) of Hawkins that we know and love, including Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo). Summer vacation has just begun, and the gang plans on a stress-free few months of romance, summer jobs, and hanging out by the pool. But, of course, that’s not possible when you’re faced with the sinister forces of the Upside Down. Yup, the beasts are back, and this time, they’ve evolved into something even more powerful.

“No matter what happens, we have to stop him together,” says Mike in the trailer. But that’s easier said than done: the battle that follows pushes the kids’ relationships with their friends and families to the breaking point. “We are going to end you. We are going to end your friends. Then, we are going to end everyone,” says a particularly intimidating Upside Down monster. How dare they ruin the state fair like that!

In addition to the trailer, Netflix also released an official description for Stranger Things Season 3 (per Variety):

It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood. Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms. When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive, and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.

Stranger Things Season 3 hits Netflix on July 4. Watch the final trailer above.
