Raise Your Hand If You’re Crushing on Whitney This Season of ‘Southern Charm’

I know I’m not alone on this one, but this season of Southern Charm has been a real eye-opening reminder of Whitney Sudler-Smith’s appeal, right? I’ve always enjoyed when he pops into the show lately, as his involvement decreased over the last couple seasons, but it feels like he’s not only more present this year but also more…hot.

It was subtle at first: he looked handsome at his mother’s dinner party at the start of the season. Then the sexy rumors about a rendezvous with Kathryn Dennis started and the subsequent girls’ trip provided us with even more bedroom deets on the matter. And then there’s last week’s new confessional look that’s simply working for me.

It’s nice that Whitney, who is also a producer on the show, has been around more this season, from dinner parties to drinks with the boys. Perhaps he’s stepping up to make sure testosterone levels stay balanced after the departure of Thomas Ravenel from the show. Or maybe he finds the group even more comfortable or enjoyable without Thomas. Either way: it sure is nice to see Whitney.

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard much about his personal life, especially this much. And I’m into it. We’re all certainly up to speed on the other guys’ romantic endeavors, perhaps too much so thanks to that infamous YouTube video, so it was refreshing to hear a rumor about Whitney for a change. To hear the gals go into even more detail was surprising yet welcome. While some of them squealed in surprise at the new facts, I found myself leaning in with intrigue, waiting to hear even more. For the record, as a fellow glasses-wearer, I’m not mad to learn he left his on during the encounter, is all. Because Whitney is the most mysterious of anyone on this show, and he pretty much always has been, just serving up breadcrumbs of info about his lavish life. He’s got projects in the works, he’s traveling all over the world. We don’t get to see him regularly bicker with an on/off girlfriend or a best friend the way the other guys do. Getting a nugget of insight into his life as small as leaving his glasses on during a hookup, well, that’s some exciting stuff.

I particularly enjoyed hearing more about his “Bieber” days touring the world as a musician. Who knew? And that camping trip wouldn’t be the same without him. Love Craig, Austen, and Shep, but it would just be three goofballs sitting around in the middle of nowhere. They needed that fourth to be provocative and protest meat products.

At a time when Whitney’s peers, including Thomas and J.D. Madison, are getting in trouble for their outdated actions and opinions, it’s comforting to still have him around as the (relatively) wise pal. From beers with the bros to his sweet friendship with Cameran to the other gals’ gossiping about him (which, come on, indicates they have some curiosity about him too, even if he is more of an older brother figure), his sense of humor and chill demeanor are good to have around the rest of the cast. It feels more like a party when he’s around, and a cool one at that. I look forward to learning much more about Whitney’s personal and professional life this season and very much hope to see more of that confessional look as well, please and thank you Southern Charm.
