Jenji Kohan’s New Netflix Show is Called, Uh, ‘Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters’

Orange is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan has a new show coming to Netflix, and it’s called Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters. They say a show title should tell you the tone and subject matter of the show, and that certainly does that!

According to a report from Variety, Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters will be executive-produced by Kohan. It will star Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini as fraternal twin sisters who are, well, slutty teenage bounty hunters. Named Sterling and Blair Wesley on the series, the two 16-year-olds join up with a veteran bounty hunter, played by Black Monday actor Kadeem Hardison, and navigate the woes of being a teenage girl (love, sex, dating—the usual) but also “dive into the world of bail skipping baddies,” whatever that means. (Don’t look at me—this is the official logline talking!) Both Phillips and Fellini are fairly unknown. You’ve seen Phillips on Ghost Wars, Van Helsing and Supernatural, and you’ve seen Fellini as Rebecca/Twist on Fox’s The Gifted. Actor Virginia Williams also joins the cast as Debbie Wesley. The show will start filming in Georgia later this year.

The series was created by Kathleen Jordan, and Robert Sudduth (On My Block, American Princess) will be the showrunner and Blake McCormick (Mad Men, True Detective) is an executive producer. Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters is part of Kohan’s overall multi-year deal with Netflix, which also includes the final season of Orange is the New Black, and the third season of GLOW. But I think we can agree that Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters is by far the worst/best name. I will say that Kohan hasn’t let us down yet, and names aren’t everything—the horribly-named Scrotal Recall is one of the best shows on TV. (And thankfully now named Lovesick.)

The producers addressed the unusual title in the press release for the show. “We’re not here to judge, y’all,” Jordan and Sudduth said. “We’re here to embrace the nuance. This show is really about two young women trying to live their lives by their own rules, haters be damned. We can’t wait for the world to meet Sterling and Blair. And as for the title, ‘Sex Positive Teenage Bounty Hunters’ didn’t have the same ring.”

You can’t argue with that logic!
