New Movies on Demand: ‘Little,’ ‘Pet Sematary,’ ‘Dumbo,’ and More

Happy Friday, everyone! Not only does this Friday mark the end of the week, but it is the last Friday of the month as well…how weird is that? But the summer is far from over so don’t feel bad if you opt for a nice, relaxing weekend in the air conditioning instead of a stressful, mosquito-filled time outdoors. And whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s on demand service, there are a lot of new releases for you to enjoy in the great indoors.

This weekend is all about variety. Bust your gut while watching Little, the instant-karma-filled story about what happens when bully boss Jordan Sanders (Lena Hall) is magically turned into a kid again. Talk about picking on someone your own size! Once your diaphragm is sore, prep your vocal cords for a good scream thanks to Stephen King’s Pet Sematary. This classic horror movie is revamped with the help of modern technology to ensure the most realistic–and biggest–fright of your life. Also available to rent on VOD this weekend is Dumbo, heartwarming remake of the Disney classic. Tim Burton adds a classic–though minute–twist of darkness to bring the story of the adorable flying elephant back to life. And if you’re about to see the re-release of Avengers: Endgame, be sure to catch up by watching Captain Marvel, which is now available to rent!

Check out what other comedies, dramas and indie films you can buy or rent this week.

Diane

The outstanding Mary Kay Place is the physical embodiment of altruism in Diane. Diane spends her days focusing on the troubles of her sick friends, a troubled son and the suffering huddled masses. Although on the surface she is a generous, self-sacrificing woman, she focuses on others in an attempt to redeem her own haunted past. But will the past finally catch up with her? This introspective drama also features the theatrical talents of Andrea Martin (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), Jake Lacy and more.

Dumbo

An old Disney favorite gets a new twist in Tim Burton’s live adaptation of Dumbo. In this iteration, the movie focuses on circus performer and WWI veteran Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his two children, Joe and Milly, who befriend the baby elephant. Fraught with cutthroat entertainment moguls and animal abuse, the family works together with the mistreated circus performers to reunite Dumbo with his mother before she is terminated. While there may be no talking mice or singing crows, this Dumbo is sure to pull on your heartstrings!

What a Girl Wants

Cue the nostalgia of millennial girlhood! What a Girl Wants stars pre-mental breakdown Amanda Bynes as Daphne, an American teenager who flies to London to search for the one thing missing in her life: her father. Said father, Henry Dashwood (played by the debonair Colin Firth–swoon!) is a prestigious Lord running for election in the House of Commons and has absolutely no idea Daphne exists. United with her father at last, Daphne must fight the pressure from Dashwood’s fiancée, his fiancée’s father, and society as a whole to find a place in her father’s life, and maybe help him recapture his true self in the process.
