Who is Tom Holland? Basic ‘Spider-Man’ Question Stumps ‘Jeopardy’ Contestants

Poor Tom Holland. The Spider-Man star is out here saving the greater New York metropolitan area, and no one knows who he is. This week, Holland was delivered yet another blow when all three Jeopardy contestants failed to identify him from a clip and the description of his new film, Spider-Man: Far From Home. Do none of these people watch the commercials during Jeopardy?

Interestingly, despite having a clearly limited understanding of pop culture, the first Double Jeopardy category played on Monday night’s episode of Jeopardy was “Action Movie Stars.” The second question, worth $1,200, was pretty basic: “This actor returns as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home, trying to enjoy a vacation while battling new foes in Europe,” host Alex Trebek read as a clip from the new Marvel film played.

The answer is pretty obvious to anyone who has checked Twitter in the past few years, but alas. “Who is Garfield?” asked one contestant, referencing previous Spider-Man Andrew Garfield and not the lasagna-loving cat (or maybe he was?). “Who is Tobey Maguire?” asked another, referencing an even earlier Spider-Man. “Nope,” said Trebek, still waiting for a response. When the third contestant declined to embarrass herself, Trebek put them out of their misery. “Who is Tom Holland,” he said. “And the film opens this week.” That’s a solid Disney plug right there.

Viewers were (rightly) savage about the contestants’ trivia blindspot. “I’m appalled. Tom Holland deserves better,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “Poor Tom Holland getting confused for Garfield the cat,” wrote another viewer. “You dumb pieces of shit,” added a third.

Hey, Jeopardy contestants, if you want to redeem yourself, listen to Alex Trebek and go see Spider-Man: Far From Home. The Marvel movie is currently in theaters everywhere.
