Kamala Harris Compares Trump to “Predators” She Prosecuted: “They Prey on the Vulnerable”

Kamala Harris has been open about her background as a prosecutor, and Wednesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she put it to good use as she laid out her plan to “prosecute the case against four more years of Donald Trump.” The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate told Kimmel that Trump is “a coward” for using his presidential power to “beat people down,” and she compared him to the many “predators” that she tried during her long career. “They prey on the vulnerable. They prey on those they believe to be weak,” said Harris. “This is the kind of characteristic that we see in this president.”

About halfway through the wide-ranging interview — they also discussed her “going in” on Joe Biden at the debate, her policy ideas, and the possibility that Democrats may “cannibalize and really hurt each other” — Kimmel asked about Trump’s recent attacks on the four Democratic congresswomen known as The Squad. “Why do you think he’s focusing on these congresswomen so much?” asked the ABC host. “I think that he has defiled the office of the President of the United States,” said Harris.

“Here’s the thing. The President of the United States has so much power. And in particular, in that microphone that she holds,” continued Harris. “What we have seen is that this individual, this president, he believes that his power is to beat people down instead of what real power and strength is about, which is lifting people up. And that’s why I also call him a coward.”

Harris went on to say that when she was a prosecutor in San Francisco, she “took on predators” of all kinds, “be they transnational criminal organizations that preyed on women and children, or the big banks that preyed on homeowners.” Explained the presidential hopeful, “I’m going to tell you something about predators. By their very nature and character and instinct, they prey on the vulnerable. They prey on those they believe to be weak. They prey on those who are in need of help, and often desperate in need of help. And this is the kind of characteristic that we see in this president.”
