‘Arrow’: Charlie Barnett Cast as John Diggle Jr. For Final Season

Are you ready for the battle of the Diggles? As just announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll) will be joining the cast of Arrow for The CW series’s final season as John Diggle, Jr. — a.k.a. J.J. — bringing him face to face with his brother, Connor (Joseph David-Jones).

Though a good chunk of the final season of Arrow will focus on Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) journey through the multiverse with The Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) as he works to stop an impending capital “C” Crisis, we’ll also get to see the future iteration of the series set in 2040 that was introduced in Season 7.

There, we met Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara), the daughter of Oliver and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards); William Clayton (Ben Lewis), the adopted son of Oliver and Felicity; and Connor Hawke (David-Jones), the adopted son of John Diggle (David Ramsey) and Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson). They formed a next-gen superteam in the mold of Team Arrow, and together helped free the Star City of the future from technocratic oppression.

Only thing, that seems to have left a void for a new nemesis, in the form of J.J. When Season 8 picks up, he’s the leader of the Deathstroke Gang, a vicious band of killers who are inspired by one of the Green Arrow’s greatest enemies. It also will bring J.J. up against Connor… Could the former not be particularly happy with being replaced by the latter?

If you know Barnett’s face, it’s probably from his appearance on Russian Doll as ***spoilers*** the other person trapped in a time loop along with Natasha Lyonne on the Netflix series. He also appeared on Netflix’s reboot of Tales of the City, as well as Chicago FireSecrets and Lies, and Valor.

Arrow‘s eighth and final season premieres on The CW on Tuesday, October 15 at 9/8c.
