Quentin Tarantino Has Written a ‘Once Upon a Time’ TV Series, Would Consider Netflix

Ahead of next week’s highly anticipated Once Upon a Time in Hollywood premiere, Quentin Tarantino has revealed that he has already written an accompanying spinoff TV series and would consider Netflix as an outlet. This is in addition to him already being attached to a major Star Trek project.

During a recent interview with Deadline, the helmer said he’s been messing around writing some scripts for the fictional series, Bounty Law, which appears in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and stars Rick Dalton (played by Leonardo DiCaprio).

“From watching the different old Western shows and everything, I did it to get in the head of Bounty Law,” said Tarantino. “I ended up starting to really like the idea of Jake Cahill, as a character. I really started loving those half hour ’50s Western scripts. The idea that you could write something like 24 minutes, where there was so much story crammed in those half hour shows, with a real beginning and a middle and an end.”

For fans of Tarantino, this news doesn’t come as a surprise as his vigorous creative spirit has always been a source of attraction. The director revealed that he has already completed “five different episodes” that he envisions as a “black-and-white half hour Western show.” He admitted, “…it was kind of fun because you can’t just keep doubling down and exploring. At some point, you’ve got to wrap it up. I really liked that idea.”

Tarantino seems to be taking the enterprise very seriously as he claims he’s willing to move ahead with or without DiCaprio, who he knows hasn’t been up for many television projects to date.

“If he wants to do it that would be great,” Tarantino clarified. “I’m not planning on that but I have an outline for about three other episodes. So I’ll probably write about three other episodes and then just do it. Direct every episode. They’re a half hour long. I wouldn’t mind doing it for Netflix but I’d want to shoot it on film. Showtime, HBO, Netflix, FX. But I also like the fact that I built up this mythology for Bounty Law and Jake Cahill.”

Until further details are revealed, we’ll all keep our fingers crossed that Bounty Law will be the next chapter of Tarantino’s career. This time, however, on the small screen.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will premiere in theaters on July 25.
