‘Baskets’ Teases Cameo from ‘PEN15’s Anna Konkle in This Exclusive Clip

Even when he’s on top, life’s still tough for Chip Baskets. At least that’s the case in this exclusive new clip from Baskets‘ upcoming episode, “Common Room Wake.” And this time the person making Zach Galifianakis’ life hell isn’t his manipulative brother or himself. It’s a brand new character played by another critically-beloved name in quirky comedy, PEN15 creator and star Anna Konkle.

In its fourth season the Galifianakis created and starring comedy has been mixing things up. After years of trying and repeatedly failing, Chip Baskets (Galifianakis) is starting to let go of his dream of becoming a French clown and finally focusing on something more important: his own happiness. This season has seen him get a life coach, take control of the rodeo his mother bought, and get his own condo. That one was also purchased by Christine (Louie Anderson), but it doesn’t matter. For once Chip Baskets is his own awkward man.

That confidence is immediately undermined when he tries to book his condo’s conference room. Though it’s pretty clear that no one really lives in this building beside Chip he still has to book through his condo’s office. And in fine form for this stilted comedy, Anita the saleswoman (Konkle) is next to no help.

According to FX, Anita will appear in Episode 6 as well as Baskets‘ Season 4 finale. And honestly there’s no actor better for this oddly sweet and sweetly odd show than Konkle. The creator’s own Hulu series, PEN15, shares Baskets‘ loving, introspective, and aggressively silly tone. If tonally shared universes were a thing, PEN15 and Baskets would be in the same one.

That’s especially true of this season which has seen Baskets at its sweetest. The FX comedy started as a slapstick drama about a desperate aspiring clown who was unwilling to accept the impossibility of his dreams. Since then it has experimented with misplaced acts of rebellion, quiet resentment, and even surprising moments of joy. However in its fourth season Chip, Christine, and even the cast-covered Martha (Martha Kelly) are finding their own peace. Check out the clip above and politely seethe at all of the bureaucratic frustrations you’ve had to endure in your own life.

New episodes of Baskets premiere on FX Thursdays at 10/9c.
