Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Mocks Democratic Presidential Candidates on ‘Saturday Night Politics’

Ahead of this week’s Democratic debates, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog ripped into a number of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates during an appearance last night on MSNBC‘s Saturday Night Politics.

The canine puppet first went after Sen. Kamala Harris and former Vice President Joe Biden, bringing up their viral confrontation from the first debate in June when Harris accused Biden of conspiring with lawmakers to oppose the busing black students to majority-white schools.

“Kamala needs to stick with what works — calling Joe Biden a racist,” declared Triumph. “And Joe Biden needs to remember that’s a bad thing.”

The character, who was made popular by Late Night With Conan O’Brien and is voiced by Robert Smigel, also took a jab at Sen. Bernie Sanders. “Bernie’s prepping for this debate. He’s ready for it this time. He’s going to prep for it by taking a nap right before,” Triumph joked. “So, that way his hair looks just right.”

He also made sure to throw in a few jabs at Pete Buttigieg, the openly gay South Bend mayor who has seemed to gain some traction among voters over the past few months. “This time, Mayor Pete cleared his schedule to focus on debate prep,” quipped Triumph. “He’s not even going to make it to T-ball practice or Timmy’s pizza party.”

Triumph then saved one of his most fiery insults for Sen. Kristen Gillibrand, comparing her to President Donald Trump‘s 2016 opponent, Hillary Clinton, but in a negative way: “Kristen is the candidate for everyone who would say, ‘I love Hillary Clinton but she’s just too likable.'”

The next round of primary debates are scheduled to take place in Detroit on Tuesday and Wednesday, hence Triumph’s perfectly-timed banter. The debates will be moderated by CNN’s Dana Bash, Don Lemon and Jake Tapper, and will start at 8 PM ET both nights.
