Tituss Burgess Rips Andy Cohen’s “Ratchet Behavior” After Uncomfortable ‘WWHL’ Appearance

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Tituss Burgess has something to say about his uncomfortable appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. On Sunday night, Burgess stopped by the Bravo talk show, and Andy Cohen confronted him with question about Eddie Murphy being “very problematic for the gays.” The actor played it off well, but this morning, he took to Instagram to express his frustration with Cohen’s “ratchet behavior.” Burgess said that Cohen was “lucky” he had his “wits and Christian values that day,” and he slammed Cohen for his “blatant disregard for one of his guests.” Continued the Emmy-nominated actor, “He should rip a page from Anderson Cooper and learn how to do his job.”

During Sunday’s episode of WWHL, Cohen read a fan question about Burgess’ relationship with Murphy, his co-star on a new Netflix film, Dolemite Is My Name. “That’s awesome,” said Cohen. “Was he cool to work with?” Burgess said that the comedy legend was “wonderful to work with,” and he praised him as “a brilliant man.” Continued the actor, “I’m so excited for all the people who — younger generations who do not know Eddie Murphy will learn why he’s the legend that he is.”

“Did you get to chat with him at all?” asked Cohen. “I just wonder if you got close at all because he was very problematic for the gays, at one point, when I was coming out.” Burgess was clearly surprised by the question, but after a beat, he responded with grace. “Ah, I see. He wasn’t problematic for Tituss,” he said. “We had a wonderful time. We talked about Dreamgirls — he should have won the Oscar, I believe. So, he was great. Any troubles he had with gay people, I guess are gone because he loved me.”

Burgess seemed to roll his eyes as Cohen said that was “good,” but he left the awkward moment at that — until Monday morning, when he sounded off on Instagram. “He should remember his talk show isn’t an episode of the Real Housewives of Atlanta!” wrote Burgess in the comments section of a video of him surprising his mother. “It’s a place where artists come to talk about art and have a little fun. NOT a place to rehash old rumors or bring a star negative press. Sunday was a display of ratchet behavior by a well connected man having blatant disregard for one of his guests.”

“He was lucky I had my wits and Christian values THAT day,” continued Burgess. “Always keep it classy. Being friends with other talented celebrities doesn’t make you talented it makes you friends with other famous celebrities! He should rip a page from Anderson Cooper and learn how to do his job.”

Cohen has yet to respond to the diss, but he has plenty of time to do so: Watch What Happens Live airs every Sunday to Thursday at 11/10c on Bravo. Don’t expect to see Tituss Burgess as a guest any time soon.
