Here’s When ‘Aladdin’ Is Coming to Video on Demand

Disney is definitely dominating the box office in 2019, and their lineup of live-action reimaginings of their animated classics is a big reason. Both The Lion King and Aladdin are crushing it–and Aladdin’s joined the billion dollar club!

Summer movie audiences were thrilled to travel to the whole new world of Agrabah, a live-action one populated by a real street rat (Mena Massoud as Aladdin) and a real princess (Naomi Scott as Jasmine). Filling Robin William’s larger-than-life shoes as the wisecracking Genie is Will Smith, a man that’s no stranger to cinematic summer crowd-pleasers.

Whether you missed Aladdin in theaters (it’s still playing, you know!) or you can’t wait to bring the action home, you probably want to know when the Disney family film will be released on VOD. Beyond that, you might want to know when you’ll be able to rent it or buy the Blu-ray. And will Aladdin ever be on Netflix? We’ve got answers to all of your Aladdin asks!

When will Aladdin be released digitally?

Disney’s blockbuster live-action adaptation of Aladdin will be released digitally in HD and 4K Ultra HD as well as on Movies Anywhere on August 27.

Also available digitally on August 27 will be a bundle that includes the live-action Aladdin as well as the original animated Aladdin, now being re-released as part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection.

When will Aladdin be available to rent digitally?

While Disney hasn’t exactly made this info clear yet, it’s always a safe bet that a movie will be available to rent digitally on the day that the Blu-ray is released. That’s the case nine times out of ten, so it’s extremely likely that you’ll be able to rent Aladdin in your preferred digital storefront (Apple, Amazon, Google Play, Vudu, etc.) on September 10.

When will the Aladdin Blu-ray be released?

As implied above, you’ll be able to purchase Aladdin and bring it home on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and/or DVD on September 10.

Just so you can plan your purchase accordingly, know that Aladdin will be available in a number of formats. They are: the 4K Ultimate Collector’s Edition (which includes 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and digital copy), a Multi-Screen Edition (including a Blu-ray and digital copy), and a DVD.

So if you plan on buying a Blu-ray, know that you’ll also get a digital copy with your purchase–but that means you have to be a little patient.

When is Aladdin coming to DVD?

Aladdin’s DVD release date is September 10. The only way to get a DVD copy is to buy the lone DVD release; a DVD won’t be part of the Multi-Screen Edition, and the DVD won’t come with a digital copy, either.

What special features will be included?

Blu-ray and digital copies of Aladdin will include a whole lot of bonus features, including featurettes, deleted scenes, and a blooper reel. Featurette topics include Will Smith’s Genie, Mena Massoud’s Aladdin, and director Guy Ritchie. There’s also an all-new deleted song sung by Aladdin and Jasmine called “Desert Moon.” The song was written by composer Alan Menken and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and comes with an intro from Menken. Additionally, music videos for “Speechless,” “A Whole New World,” and “Un Mundo Ideal” will be included.

If you pre-purchase Aladdin digitally, you’ll also get access to a featurette that details the making of the “Prince Ali” musical number. All digital copies will also come with an exclusive featurette focusing on Jasmine’s new song “Speechless.”

When will Aladdin be available on Netflix?

Never! The Netflix and Disney days are done, people! We gotta move on!

When will Aladdin be available on Disney+?

Now you’re asking the right question, although the answer is not clear just yet. There was always a definitive wait time between a Disney movie being released in theaters and hitting Netflix, so we could easily predict that. That’s not the same with Disney+, at least not yet. We do know when two Disney movies are making their Disney+ debut, though: Captain Marvel debuts when the service launches on November 12, and Avengers: Endgame will be added on December 11. That’s a 7-8 month wait. With that being said, if that wait is indicative of Disney+’s strategy, you can probably expect to see Aladdin on Disney+ in January 2020.
