‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’ Series Coming to CBS All Access from ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Producer

CBS All Access is expanding its sci-fi content in a surprising way. The streaming service is already the home of a growing slate of Star Trek series as well as Jordan Peele’s new Twilight Zone, and soon it will welcome The Man Who Fell to Earth.
Announced during its Television Critics Association presentation, CBS All Access has given a series order to a new adaptation of Walter Tevis’ novel, which was famously turned into a feature film of the same name starring David Bowie in 1976. Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek: Discovery) and Jenny Lumet (Rachel Getting Married) will write and serve as co-showrunners. Kurtzman will also direct.
As described in the press release, the series “will follow an alien who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and must confront his own past to determine our future.”
Kurtzman praised Tevis’ original novel, saying that it “gave us a tech god Willy Wonka from another planet” that predated modern tech innovators like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk. Kurtzman said that the new series will similarly look ahead and “imagine the next step in our evolution, seen through the eyes of an alien who must learn what it means to become human, even as he fights for the survival of his species.”
Both Kurtzman and Lumet will serve as executive producers alongside John Hlavin, Rola Bauer, Tim Halkin, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, and Heather Kadin; Aaron Baiers will co-executive produce.

On CBS All Access’ sci-fi front, The Man Who Fell to Earth joins Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks, The Twilight Zone, and an upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Stand.
