Thanks to CBS All Access, Star Trek is getting bigger than before. During CBS All Access’ panel at the Television Critics Association’s 2019 summer tour, CBS All Access Content Chief Julie McNamara and President and Chief Operating Officer of CBS Interactive Marc DeBevoise spoke about Stark Trek‘s future.

Ahead of the streaming service’s flagship sci-fi drama Star Trek: Discovery, CBS All Access will be launching six more Trek shorts. These mini episodes will follow fan favorites Pike, Spock, and Number One, a newer character from Discovery Season 2. The final episode of the short Trek series will tee up the streaming service’s much anticipated Star Trek: Picard series.

But six new episodes and a brand new series isn’t all. The streaming service also teased its upcoming Star Trek animated series. From Rick and Morty executive producer and “lifelong Trekkie” Mike McMahan comes Star Trek: Lower Decks. “this show is from the point of view of crew mates on the USS Seritus who are decks below the officers getting all the glory on the bridge,” McNamara explained.

But don’t worry. CBS All Access’ first Trek investment will still live long and prosper. “Season 3 of Discovery returns later next year with new cast member David Ajala as that show blasts a thousand years into an unknown future at warp speed,”  McNamara said. “Taken together these shows ensure that there’s a Trek out there for everyone, each carving out its own unique place in the universe.”

It’s all very exciting for fans of this iconic series. But what exactly will Star Trek: Picard look like? According to McNamara, the series will be similar to Discovery in terms of production, size, and scope. However in terms of character development and storytelling, it will be more like Star Trek: Next Generation. “Of course we are a number of years later now so there are some shifts in the storytelling and style, but I think it’s a really nice hybrid of the two,” McNamara said.
