Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau’s Maybe-Fake Wedding Brings in More Than $3 Million

Last weekend, YouTube stars Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau got married in what may or may not have been a stunt to promote her MTV web series… and almost 65,000 people tuned in to watch. According to journalist Josh Pescatore, 64,091 people streamed Paul and Mongeau’s wedding on Halogen, a service that sold a $50 pay-per-view livestream of the event. It doesn’t take a math whiz to figure out that Halogen made a lot of money from the 10-minute event — $3,204,550, to be exact. Are Paul and Mongeau Pottery Barn people?

TubeFilter reports that Paul and Mongeau’s Sunday night wedding was only available to stream on Halogen, a platform designed to foster “a revolution in the way creators and fans connect, engage, and support through exclusive content and live video experiences that bring people closer to their favorite creators.” Viewers interested in watching the Las Vegas festivities had to purchase a $50 subscription, and according to Pescatore, they did so in droves. Eight hours after the event ended, Pescatore took a screenshot of the total view count, which topped out at a whopping 64,091.

While it’s possible that Halogen’s total count could be off — as TubeFilter notes, “we don’t know if each of those views was a unique view, or if some people rewatched” — it’s clear that the #JanaWedding came out in the black. 64,091 people paying $50 per stream comes out to $3,204,550, a massive haul for a little-known service like Halogen. According to TubeFilter, fans have speculated that Paul and his older brother Logan have a stake in Halogen (hence why they snagged exclusive streaming rights to the wedding), which means that they’re raking in some serious cash, as well.

Viewers who tuned in were in for quite a show. According to Page Six, the 10-minute ceremony devolved into chaos when a guest threw champagne at Paul, who reacted by starting a fistfight. MTV’s cameras reportedly chased the offending guest out of the venue, but Paul managed to land a few punches before the culprit left. That doesn’t sound at all like a reality show plot. Not. at. all.

Paul and Mongeau’s wedding will likely to be available to stream (for free!) on MTV’s No Filter: Tana Turns 21 in the next few weeks. New episodes of the YouTube series premiere every Monday on MTV’s channel.
