Happy Friday and Happy August everyone! Everybody knows that the start of a new month marks the coming onslaught of brand-new shows and movies from all of your favorite streaming services! And since these summer days are getting impossibly longer, you have more time this weekend to enjoy the glorious monthly holiday we are now calling “New Releases Day!” So put on your party hats and celebrate with your loved ones by checking out all of the new TV shows and movies hitting Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO this weekend.

Dear White People is finally back for its much-anticipated third season on Netflix. Season 2’s cliffhanger finale revealed the identity of the mysterious narrator, but what does that mean for Samantha White’s (Logan Browning) search for the secret society “The Order of X?” Not only will we get to see the repercussions of the big discovery in this coming season, but we will also get to watch the transformation of the “Dear White People” radio show now that Samantha has stepped down! What will Joelle Brooks (Ashley Blaine Featherson) change? And after a release delay due to an interesting college-related investigation, Otherhood, starring Felicity Huffman, Angela Bassett and Patricia Arquette, is finally dropping on Netflix! The movie follows three friends who all feel like they have been utterly abandoned and neglected by their adult sons, and decide to change their current state by visiting their sons in New York City. After all, these women housed their sons for 18 years, so the boys should be willing to host their moms for a few measly days, right?

This summer could be called “The Euphoric Summer,” because HBO’s Euphoria has taken the world by storm. The first season of this drama series has been full of heartbreaking stories, struggling teenagers and emotional growth; we are sure that all of the intense drama and strained relationships between these characters—especially between Jules, Rue and Nate—will finally come to a head in the season finale that will come out this Sunday. And don’t you worry about any potential cliffhangers; Euphoria has just been renewed for a second season.

Are you excited to see what other juicy shows and movies are being dumped on your favorite platforms? Here’s what’s new on streaming this weekend.

Dear White People Season 3

It is finally spring in Season 3 of Dear White People, and with a new season—yes, pun intended—comes new relationships, new character arcs and a brand new radio host (Samantha White is stepping down and Joelle Brooks is taking over, people). The cliffhanger ending of last season leaves much to explore about the Ivy League school of Winchester; during Samantha and Lionel’s investigation into the mythic secret society called “The Order of X,” the pair came face-to-face with the show’s narrator: Giancarlo Esposito. But is Esposito a part of the secret society, and does the society even exist? The third season of Dear White People will dive into this and more as the satirical dramedy continues to address the problems with race relations in America today.

Otherhood

After a delayed yet long-awaited release, Otherhood starring Felicity Huffman, Angela Bassett and Patricia Arquette is finally coming to Netflix. The movie follows three women who have been friends since childhood who feel like they have been severely neglected by their sons—they are celebrating Mother’s Day with each other instead of their children…come on! Fed up with their neglect and marginalization, Carol Walker (Bassett), Gillian Lieberman (Arquette) and Helen Halston (Huffman) head to New York City to ambush their sons for a few mandatory days of bonding time. Throughout the film, the moms work to help their sons grow and reconnect but realize that they themselves need to change too. Otherhood is a story about rediscovery, growth and love, all while bringing the laughs in the perfect blend of heartwarming moments and moms-gone-wild fun.

Euphoria: Season 1 Finale

Euphoria has quickly skyrocketed to become one of the best shows to come out this summer; the season has been full of grit, drama and enough emotional turmoil to last a lifetime, and it is not over yet. In the penultimate episode of this dramatic first season, Rue (Zendaya) got very close to figuring out the mystery that is the twisted drama between Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Jules (Hunter Schafer), all while experiencing bipolar-induced bouts of mania and depression. Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) found out she was pregnant, Jules had a moment of self-discovery while on a trip to New York and Nate went head-to-head with our beloved drug dealer with a heart of gold, Fez (Angus Cloud). So where will these embattled teenagers go next? Should we expect a final confrontation between Rue and Nate? And will Fez get arrested? Find out in what is sure to be a tear-filled season finale.
