If William H. Macy is going to face any repercussions for his connection to a recent college admissions scandal, they won’t be coming from his bosses at Showtime. At the Television Critics Association’s 2019 summer tour President of Entertainment for Showtime Networks Gary Levine took the stage to talk about Showtime’s upcoming slate of shows. He also addressed whether or not he spoke to the Shameless star about his involvement of this spring’s celebrity college scandal.

“No, he was just really happy to be working on Shameless, and we were really happy to have someone of his talent and someone of his work ethic and the leader that he is on the set of Shameless,” Levine said.

In March, United States federal prosecutors revealed that 51 people were involved in a college admissions bribery scandal. The scheme involved bribing exam administrators to give false scores, bribing coaches and administrators to nominate unqualified applicants, and using a charity organization to launder and hide these illegal payments.

It was a scandal that was interesting in and of itself. But what made it more headline-grabbing were the celebrities involved. Both Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were named in the suit. However, Hoffman’s husband William H. Macy was not.

The scandal has greatly impacted both actresses. Loughlin was fired from the projects When Calls the Heart and Fuller House. She pled not guilty in April. Huffman hasn’t faced as much of a professional blowback but she did plead guilty to the charges against her. She was released on a $250,000 bail. Currently a limited series about the scandal based on the book by Melissa Korn and Jen Levitz is being developed by The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story writer DV Devincentis.

But there’s one name that’s been left off of coverage this controversy: William H. Macy. Though he was never directly involved or charged, his marriage to Huffman makes him more connected to this case than most. Maybe, given he hasn’t seen any blowback, Macy could play himself in the miniseries?
