‘The Morning Show’: Apple’s First Trailer Teases Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, and Reese Witherspoon’s Inner Conflict

After more than a year of hype, the first teaser trailer for Apple’s morning show drama The Morning Show is finally here. The high-profile drama series will debut on the new streaming service Apple TV+, set to launch this fall. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, and more top talent, The Morning Show will anchor Apple’s rapidly-expanding slate of original shows, movies, and documentaries, many of which will premiere alongside the launch of the SVOD service.

The Morning Show follows the everyday happenings of — you guessed it — a morning news show. According to Apple, the drama will provide “an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, exploring the unique challenges faced by the women (and men) who carry out this daily televised ritual.” The series was first announced in late 2017, with Witherspoon and Aniston attached as stars and executive producers. Almost a full year later, in October 2018, Carell joined the project, which marks his first regular TV gig since The Office. He plays Mitch Kessler, a morning show anchor struggling to stay in the spotlight in the rapidly-shifting media landscape.

If the trailer is any indication, The Morning Show is going to look a little like another seminal news drama: Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom. While the teaser is light on actual footage, it does introduce viewers to the inner conflict of its main stars, who must adapt to a constantly-changing industry — and an ever-depressing news cycle. “Good morning,” says Aniston’s voiceover. “I’m bringing you some sad and upsetting news.” Meanwhile, Carell’s character ruminates on his responsibilities as “a journalist,” as Witherspoon explains that “it’s just [her] nature” to “push.” Paging Madeline Martha Mackenzie, anyone?

The Morning Show makes its Apple debut this fall. Until then, we’ll be watching the teaser on repeat.
