Let’s be honest: you’re not really reading this intro paragraph. But who could blame you? It’s Friday, you are ready to punch out and this paragraph serves as the last obstacle to getting what you really want: to find out what’s new on your favorite streaming platforms to enjoy while you unwind. And we get it, especially since Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and HBO are dishing out a fantastic array of movies and TV shows this weekend.
After two years of anxious waiting, Mindhunter Season 2 is finally coming out on Netflix. The new season jumps to the late 70s to 80s and follows FBI investigators Ford and Tench (Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany respectively) as they investigate the infamous Atlanta Child Murders alongside other true-crime cases that took place during that time. And if you are still feeling the mystery-solving bug, then you should also check out Diagnosis, a new docu-series about diagnosing extremely rare medical conditions. But here’s the twist: the show and its frontrunner, Dr. Lisa Sanders, rely on the public to help solve the medical mysteries by crowdsourcing via social media and the internet!
If the series premiere of Succession Season 2 has given you an appetite for shows about dysfunctional families, then look no further than The Righteous Gemstones, a brand-new series premiering on HBO this Sunday. Starring Adam DeVine (Pitch Perfect, Workaholics), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski) and Danny McBride (Pineapple Express), The Righteous Gemstones is a comedy series about a dysfunctional family of famous televangelists that lives a life of greed, lust and deceit, all in the name of Jesus Christ.
Curious what else is hitting Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO? We will not stand in your way any longer; here’s what’s new on streaming this weekend.

Diagnosis

Everybody knows that the internet has the potential to damage self-esteem, end relationships and destroy public reputations, but what if the internet could also save lives? In Diagnosis, Dr. Lisa Sanders puts the diversity found on the internet to the test to find medical answers for people who have given up hope. The new documentary series is about everyday people who suffer from debilitating, undiagnosed illnesses. For each impossibly-difficult case, Dr. Sanders calls upon the public via social media, crowdsourcing and medical expertise to help identify the mystery illness. This series never takes no for an answer, and the amazing results will inspire you to use the internet to help others.  Note: this does not mean that you should rely solely on WebMD for your doctor’s appointments!

Mindhunter: Season 2

The addictive crime thriller series Mindhunter is back for a new season of (serial) killer plotlines, intense moments and infamous characters. Season 2 promises to cover multiple true-crime cases but will mostly center on the Atlanta Child Murders: a string of killings between 1979 and 1981 that took the lives of 28 African-American men, women and children. Now set in the “Son of Sam” and “The Zodiac Killer” crime era, FBI pair Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Trench (Holt McCallany)’s specialty is considered more legitimate, and viewers will get to witness these two aficionados come face-to-face with some of the most infamous serial killers in history.

The Righteous Gemstones

Adam Devine, John Goodman and Danny McBride (Pineapple Express) is the comedy trio we never knew we needed in the new HBO series, The Righteous Gemstones. The comedy show follows the Gemstones, a famous family of televangelists whose dysfunctional, corrupt and greedy lives are a part of their “holy work.” Goodman plays patriarch Eli Gemstone while Devine and McBride play his two dimwitted —yet divinely guided— sons Jesse and Kelvin who are trying to keep their father’s slipping legacy and fortune intact. As a show about characters who’s excuse is always the Big Man Upstairs, we are sure to witness some scandalous and hilarious situations in The Righteous Gemstones when it premieres Sunday night.
