‘The Great British Baking Show’ Collection 7 Will Premiere on Netflix August 30

A new season of The Great British Baking Show will be premiering on Netflix later this month. Eagle-eyed fans have spotted that Netflix’s website has added a note that The Great British Baking Show Collection 7 will be hitting the streaming service on August 30, 2019. The new season of the show — called The Great British Bake-Off in the United Kingdom — is set to premiere across the pond on August 27, 2019. Netflix has confirmed to Decider that for the very first time, the streaming service will be airing new episodes of the addictive baking show weekly, just days after their British debut.

The Great British Baking Show first made its way over to the United States as a popular PBS import. Then, it found crazy success in Netflix’s library. Two years ago, Love Productions, the company that produces the series, tried to renegotiate its contracts with British broadcasting titan, the BBC. Eventually, Love Productions moved the series to rival Channel 4. Netflix took this opportunity to negotiate to make the show a Netflix Original, which means they get the exclusive rights to later seasons.

If it’s true that a new episode of The Great British Baking Show will premiere on August 30, it would be huge for stateside fans. Netflix’s deal with Love Productions has already closed the gap in how long Anglophiles have to wait for the British import, but this means Americans can follow along weekly as it happens. Hulu has been experimenting with UK import Love Island in a similar manner, but it also echoes the “NOW” strategy of niche service BritBox, which brings newly-aired British favorites to US viewers within hours.
