‘The Report’ Trailer: Watch Adam Driver Uncover a CIA Conspiracy in Amazon’s Political Thriller

Adam Driver, welcome to awards season. This morning, Amazon Prime Video released the official teaser trailer for The Report, a thriller starring Driver as an idealistic political staffer who finds himself at the center of an investigation into the CIA. With an all-star cast, timely themes, and direction from Hollywood veteran Scott Z. Burns (he wrote the upcoming James Bond film No Time to Die), The Report is sure to be a major Oscars contender. To best position the film heading into awards season, Amazon has pushed back the film’s release date: The Report will now premiere in theaters on November 15, before hitting Prime Video on November 29.

Based on true events, The Report stars Driver as Daniel J. Jones, a young staffer who is tasked by his boss (Senator Dianne Feinstein, played by Annette Bening) to lead an investigation into the CIA’s Detention and Interrogation Program, originally created after 9/11. Before long, Jones uncovers the great lengths the CIA went to destroy evidence, subvert the law, and hide a brutal secret from the American public — findings that the intelligence community, as well as the White House, would prefer to remain under wraps.

In addition to Driver and Bening, The Report stars Jon Hamm as Denis McDonough, White House Chief of Staff under President Barack Obama. Sarah Goldberg (Barry), Michael C. Hall, Ted Levine, Jennifer Morrison, Matthew Rhys, Corey Stoll, Maura Tierney, and more also appear as various Washington power players, all of whom were drawn into the investigation (or the attempted cover-up) in one way or another.

Considering that The Report has “Oscars” written all over it, it’s no surprise that Amazon is putting their weight behind the political thriller. In June, Amazon announced that The Report would debut in late September (in theaters) and mid-October (on streaming), but as of today, that date has been pushed back to November, likely to compete with other awards contenders. The Report will now have a two-week exclusive run in theaters beginning November 15 before landing on Amazon Prime Video on November 29. If you didn’t have Thanksgiving weekend plans, you do now.
