Hulu has just got a lot sillier and a little creepier with the addition of What We Do in the Shadows. The first season of Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s ridiculous vampire comedy is now available to stream.

Loosely based off of the 2014 indie New Zealand film of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows is a dry mockumentary about a group of vampire roommates. And much like Clement and Waititi’s film before it, the series adaptation is uproariously funny. Hundreds of years ago three vampires, Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), were sent to America to enslave the new world. But after too many arguments about werewolf boundaries and who should do the dishes, they kind of forgot to do that. Now these three Staten Island-bound vampires have to scramble to enslave America and keep their elders happy. The whole process involves more city council sit-ins than you would expect.

That’s what makes What We Do in the Shadows such a delightful movie and show. Though it deals with creatures as creepy as vampires, living hats made of flesh, and werewolves as it gleefully dumps buckets of blood and puke every episode, it’s just as silly as it is dark. Demetriou especially excels at giving the camera exasperated looks in a move that would make Jim Halpert proud.

From awkward familiars and a LARP-loving young woman who’s forced to become a vampire (played by Beanie Feldstein) to the energy-sucking foe known as Colin Robinson, What We Do in the Shadows is consistently as innovative as it is hysterical. Definitely give it a binge watch. And when you’re done with that check out all the secrets Decider learned behind the scenes of the show and learn which cast member loved flying the most.
