‘The Flash’: Sherloque Figures out the Formula for Love in This Exclusive Deleted Scene

When the greatest detective in the multiverse screws up his burgeoning relationship, how does he fix things? Easy: with math. And in this exclusive deleted scene from The Flash Season 5, that’s exactly what Harrison Sherloque Wells (Tom Cavanagh) does.

For those of you not up to speed (get it???) on The CW’s hit superhero series, Season 5 introduced yet another variation on Cavanagh’s Wells in the form of Sherloque. The fedora-wearing detective has a ridiculous accent and a nose for mysteries a la his Sir Arthur Conan Doyle inspired namesake. He also, it turns out, has a predilection for romancing the same woman in multiple universes: Renee Adler (Kimberly Williams-Paisley).

That’s what Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) discovers in the episode “Goldfaced,” while secretly working with another variation on Wells (sort of, it’s complicated), in the form of arch-villain Eobard Thawne. The plan? Distract Sherloque by having him meet-cute with this universe’s Renee. Only things go wrong with Sherloque detectives a little too hard, creeping Renee out and making her think he’s a stalker. Nora tries again, calling up all of the alt-universe versions of Renee, leading to another disaster (Sherloque hasn’t exactly been paying his multiversal alimony on time). That’s when she makes a suggestion: he’s a detective, so why not treat romancing this Earth’s Renee like a mystery?

Though you can check out all of these scenes (and more!) as The Flash is currently streaming, with The Flash: The Complete Fifth Season hitting DVD and Blu-Ray on August 27 from Warner Bros Home Entertainment, you’ll get a look at some of what could have been. That includes the above deleted scene, where Sherloque put his skills to work. His board is worth checking out alone, full of formulas trying to break down the solution to “Lovers + Chocolate/First Date,” and whether “Walk on Beach” is greater than “Moonlit Stroll.” But it also creates a neat bit of connective fiber between Sherloque being bummed out in the episode, and eventually romancing Renee correctly with Nora’s help.

“I have not always been successful at romance,” Sherloque notes in the clip, “but one thing you get from heartbreak? Opportunity. The opportunity to study from your mistakes, and learn from them.”

The Blu-Ray/DVD collection includes a slew of other deleted scenes, a gag reel, featurettes including “The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panel San Diego 2018,” “The Evolution of Killer Frost,” “Inside the Crossover: Elseworlds,” and “Villains: Modes of Persuasion.” And of course all 22 Season 5 episodes — plus the Blu-Ray also contains the two crossover episodes from Arrow and Supergirl meaning you’ll have a less annoying time flipping discs from your player (or all over your Netflix queue).

Check out the deleted scene above, and see if you can figure out the formula for love, all on your own.
