‘SNL’ Taps Eddie Murphy as December Host, With Woody Harrelson, Taylor Swift Also Set to Appear

You can add Saturday Night Live Season 45 host to Eddie Murphy‘s resume. This afternoon, NBC announced that the legendary comedian will host SNL on December 21, with a musical guest still to be announced. In addition to Murphy, Woody Harrelson, Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, David Harbour, and Kristen Stewart will also host throughout Season 45, and Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Camila Cabello will serve as musical guests.

On Monday, NBC revealed the first hosting details for Saturday Night Live Season 45, which premieres on September 28 with three live coast-to-coast shows. While the network didn’t give details about every episode — there’s a large chunk of time from November 2 to December 21 with no set host or musical guest — they did give enough information for SNL fans to start getting excited about the new season (and particularly that October 5 episode). As of now, the schedule is as follows:

September 28: Woody Harrelson / Billie Eilish
October 5: Phoebe Waller-Bridge / Taylor Swift
October 12: David Harbour / Camila Cabello
November 2: Kristen Stewart / Musical Guest TBA
December 21: Eddie Murphy / Musical Guest TBA

As we get further into the fall, SNL will likely release addition hosts and musical guests on a semi-regular basis (usually a few weeks ahead of each episode). Of course, there are no shortage of stars to choose from, particularly in November and December, when awards season is in full swing. Could Adam Driver make a repeat appearance to promote The Report? Idris Elba to get viewers excited for (and also even more afraid of) Cats? The entire cast of Little Women? If only.

Murphy also has his fair share of projects to promote on Saturday Night Live. His upcoming Netflix film Dolemite Is My Name doesn’t have a set premiere date quite yet (Netflix promises that it will premiere “this fall”) but it’s slated to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2019. The comedian is also starring in a sequel of the iconic Coming To America, which is expected to be released in late 2020. Plus, in July, TMZ reported that Murphy is currently negotiating a $70 million deal with Netflix for a series of comedy specials, his first since the 1980s. Neither party has yet to confirm or deny the rumors, but if true, it’s possible that Murphy’s SNL stint could coincide with the first of these specials. Who doesn’t love some holiday-time Eddie Murphy content?
