Disenchantment Season 2

Release Date: September 20

Platform: Netflix

Disenchantment Cast: Abbi Jacobson, Eric Andre, Nat Faxon, John DiMaggio, Tress MacNeille, and Matt Berry lend their voices to this wacky animated comedy

Creator: Matt Groening and John Weinstein

The Pitch: Imagine a medieval, magical world run by a hard-drinking princess and her two stupid friends. Well, stop imagining because Netflix has already granted that wish for you. Filled with equally brilliant and silly gags that will make any Simpsons or Futurama fan smile, Disenchantment tells the story of Princess Bean (voiced by Jacobson), a young woman who just wants to live her own life removed from the expectations of the throne and her incompetent father. And thanks to her friends Elfo the elf (voiced by Faxon), Luci the demon (voiced by Andre), and a ton of beer, she’s going to do just that.

Why we’re excited: Even when Disenchantment was just being its typical slacker self, following Bean, Elfo, and Luci as they ruined royal dinners and crashed taboo opium dens, the adult animated comedy was a hilarious delight. But it’s last season’s cliffhanger that makes this upcoming batch of episodes a must watch.

After years spent mourning over her dead mother Queen Dagmar (voiced by Sharon Horgan), Bean sacrificed Elfo to bring her mom back. That’s when we learned the horrible truth about the woman she idolized for so long. Dagmar was never murdered. Rather, while she was trying to kill her husband and Bean’s father Zøg (voiced by DiMaggio), she accidentally poisoned herself. Dagmar is actually an evil witch, and she’s about to make Bean’s life hell.

Season 2 picks up directly after that revelation. With her kingdom now turned to stone and her best friend still dead, Bean and Luci have to travel to hell to rescue Elfo. Can they save him? Can they stop the malicious Dagmar before she destroy Dreamland any further? Will Princess Bean finally take her rightful place on the throne? And more importantly, how will Bean and her alcoholism mess everything up again? We’ll be watching (and laughing) as this equally sweet and messy fantasy saga unfolds.
