Netflix Reveals ‘Netflix and Chills’ Horror Slate of 5 Original Films, Just in Time for Halloween

Just in time for Friday the 13th, Netflix announced its annual “Netflix and Chills” category of horror films to make your Halloween extra spooky. And this year, there are five brand new original horror films coming to the streaming service.

Perhaps the most exciting is In the Tall Grass, a film adaption of a 2012 novella written by Stephen King and son Joe Hill coming to Netflix on October 4. You can check out Decider’s exclusive first look at four images from the film, which is directed and adapted by Cube filmmaker Vincenzo Natali and stars Harrison Gilbertson, Laysla De Oliveira, Avery Whitted, Will Buie Jr., Rachel Wilson, and Patrick Wilson.

Other new original films on the Netflix and Chills slate include: In the Shadow of the Moon, a sci-fi thriller starring Boyd Holbrook, Cleopatra Coleman, and Michael C. Hall about a detective tracking down a serial killer, coming on September 27; Fractured, a thriller starring Sam Worthington and Lily Rabe about a family holiday gone wrong, coming on October 11; Eli, a horror film starring Charlie Shotwell, Lili Taylor and Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) about a sick boy and his eccentric doctor, coming on October 18; and Rattlesnake, a thriller starring Carmen Ejogo, Apollina Pratt, and Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) about a deadly cross-country road trip, coming on October 25.

Netflix is also highlighting several non-original licensed spooky TV shows and movies under its Netflix and Chills category in the spirit of the season, including The Walking Dead, American Psycho, Dexter and more.

The announcement came with a trailer teasing clips from all five films, which you can watch above.

Last year, “Netflix and Chills” featured an original short film anthology called Don’t Watch This, which was five short horror films, all under ten minutes long, so this year the streaming service is really stepping up its game with the five full-length features. Get ready for non-stop screaming and streaming!
