Watch the Terrifying Trailer for Netflix’s Stephen King Movie, ‘In the Tall Grass’

Get ready to be afraid of—of all things—grass, thanks to the In the Tall Grass trailer, which dropped on Tuesday. The upcoming Netflix horror film is an adaptation of a 2012 short story from horror master Stephen King and son Joe Hill, about two siblings, Cal and Becky, who venture into a field of grass after they hear a little boy cry out. As it turns out, the grass, being as tall as it is, contains a number of evil secrets that Cal and Becky, unfortunately, stumble upon.

Directed and adapted by sci-fi/thriller expert Vincenzo Natali (Cube, Splice), In the Tall Grass is coming to Netflix on October 4, after premiering at Fantastic Fest at the end of September. It stars newcomers Laysla De Oliveira as Becky and Avery Whitted as Cal, and seasoned horror actor Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring, Insidious), as Ross, a man that Cal and Becky discover in the field who claims to be the father of the lost little boy, Tobin (Will Buie Jr., best known from the Disney Channel series Bunk’d). Get ready for Wilson’s mustache-and-polo-shirt dad look. Rachel Wilson (no relation), meanwhile, plays Tobin’s mother. Finally, Harrison Gilbertson (Picnic at Hanging Rock) plays Travis, a character mentioned only in a flashback in the short story, but who will have a fleshed-out role in the feature adaptation, Natali told Decider in a previous interview.

In the trailer, Cal and Becky follow the cries of Tobin into the grass (the tall grass), and quickly get separated and confused. Very quickly, the seemingly innocent field turns nightmarish. As in, it seems highly likely I’ll have nightmares about grass after this film, so thanks, Stephen King, Joe Hill and Vincenzo Natali for that new pointless phobia!

But seriously, this film is going to be must-watch for King and horror fans alike. Watch the trailer above, and while you wait for that October 4 release, head over to read Decider’s exclusive first-look at the film, along with some quotes from Natali, who hinted—for those who have read the short story—that the film version won’t “pull punches.” Hoo boy. Get ready for a wild and disturbing ride.

In the Tall Grass will begin streaming on Netflix on October 4, 2019.
