Who is Thomas Lennon? All About the Announcer at This Year’s Emmy Awards

The 2019 Emmy Awards may not have had a host this year, but the show does have a master of ceremony of sorts. Thomas Lennon is the Emmy Awards’s announcer this year, meaning it is his voice that you are hearing throughout the broadcast. He’s making quips about Phoebe Waller-Bridge being Britain’s new most popular bridge and how the Emmys are kind of like Hollywood’s version of selecting their “Grizabella.”

So who is Thomas Lennon? How do you know the comic actor? What are his best-known works?

Who is Thomas Lennon, The 2019 Emmys Announcer?

Thomas Lennon is a comedian, actor, and writer best-known for his work with ’90s sketch comedy troupe/series The State. After The State, Lennon and his comedy pals worked together again on the long-running improvised sitcom Reno 911!. Lennon played Lieutenant Jim Dangle on the series, a police officer known for his Southern drawl and his short shorts. Since then, Lennon has starred in CBS’s revival of The Odd Couple, among a variety of other film and television roles.

Why Isn’t There a Host for the 2019 Emmy Awards?

While there’s no official reason for there not being a host, hostless awards shows have been becoming more and more popular since the Oscars decided to go without one this year. Before the Emmy Awards tonight, comedian Sarah Silverman quipped to the E! news team that Hollywood didn’t want comedians talking anymore, but she added that comedians might not also want the gig. “Nobody wants to do it; it’s thankless.”

Nevertheless, the Emmys seem to be going fine so far, though announcer Thomas Lennon seems to be helping out a lot with his interstitial commentary.
