Watch Halsey’s Moving Performance of “Time After Time” at the Emmys

The 2019 Emmys were all-around senseless and strange, but there was one moment that actually resonated with viewers: Halsey‘s moving performance of “Time After Time” during the show’s In Memoriam tribute. Halsey performed a piano rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s classic over a slideshow of actors, writers, and producers who have passed away over the last year — a list that includes stars like Stan Lee, Luke Perry, Penny Marshall, and more. Viewers didn’t have many kind words to say about the show itself, but they loved Halsey’s “Time After Time” Emmys performance, with one fan adding, “It was the most angelic thing I’ve ever heard.”

Every year, a different star is asked to perform during the In Memoriam tribute, and at the 2019 Emmys, that honor fell to Halsey. It was impossible not to get emotional as Halsey stripped down Lauper’s “Time After Time,” especially as photos and clips of late Hollywood heavyweights played on-screen. This year’s In Memoriam segment honored dozens of familiar faces that Hollywood has lost over the past year, including Tim Conway, Gloria Vanderbilt, Rip Torn, Katherine Helmond, and many, many more.

After the Emmys In Memoriam segment concluded, viewers praised Halsey for her emotional performance. “It was the most angelic thing I’ve ever heard. I couldn’t be more proud,” one fan wrote. “Who is emotional after Halsey singing ‘Time After Time’? Bc I am,” tweeted another. “Halsey singing Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Time After Time’ at the Emmys is everything!!” wrote another fan.

Halsey is currently hard at work promoting her upcoming album, Manic. A few weeks ago, the singer released a time-lapse visualizer for “Graveyard,” a single from the forthcoming album, which debuts on January 17. With that date in mind, is it too early to start campaigning for Halsey to perform at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards on January 5?
