‘Halloween Wars,’ ‘Halloween Baking Championship,’ and ‘Kids Halloween Baking Championship’ Now on Hulu

Halloween season is here! And with it, a bevy of boo-tiful Food Network halloween shows have landed on Hulu. Halloween Baking Championship, Halloween Wars, and Kids Halloween Baking Championship are all new on Hulu this month. These baking competition shows are as spooky as they are kooky. You see, Halloween is the rare time of year where Food Network cuts loose. Judges wear insane costumes, kitchen sets get overrun with dry ice and fake cobwebs, and the treats themselves come with tricks.

Halloween Baking Championship, hosted by John Henson and judged by a triumvirate of Food Network personalities decked out in their greatest and most ghoulish costumes, is as close to the mayhem of Nailed It! as you’ll get on the Food Network. The vibe is silly, the mood only slightly scary, and the format is a bit like The Great British Baking Show, but tailor-made for Helena to win. Eight bakers duke it out over five episodes to see who can make the best-tasting spooky treats. The judge’s line-up has changed a little bit over the years, but Top Chef alum Carla Hall is always there bringing her raucous fun energy.

Halloween Wars is the most intense of the new shows on Hulu. Over four episodes, five teams comprised of a master pumpkin carver, candy maker, and cake decorator have to work together to make the most ghoulish desserts imaginable.  This is also where you’ll find the scariest finished treats, as the artists put an emphasis on the horror elements of Halloween. It’s less cutesy Halloween and more gothic Halloween. (Think Christine McConnell at her most delightfully deranged.) If that’s not enough for you, a stand-alone Halloween Wars special has also hit Hulu this month.

Finally, the sweetest Halloween baking show to hit Hulu this month is the Kids Halloween Baking Championship. Only made once, this special installment of Food Network’s Kids Baking Championship plucks four fan favorites and puts them in a cobwebbed-kitchen to make treasure out of trick or treat bags. The best part of the show, however, is the hilarious commentary the pint-sized pastry chefs add themselves. Each confessional interview plays like the kid’s uncensored stream-of-consciousness.
