From Maya Rudolph to David Thewlis, it seems like Big Mouth can get anyone to join its impressive voice acting cast. Everyone except for Howard Stern. At New York City Comic Con Big Mouth co-creator and star Nick Kroll spoke to a panel of journalists that included Decider. Though Stern was offered to play a Hormone Monster, he turned the role down.

“We tried to get Howard Stern to be Nick’s Hormone Monster up in the Department of Puberty,” Kroll revealed. “I wrote a letter to his agent. He politely declined. Because I think he would be a pretty good Hormone Monster.”

In the exaggerated world of Big Mouth every kid is assigned a Hormone Monster to help them through the hell that is puberty. Though they typically have their kids’ best interests in mind, really the Hormone Monster’s role is to express the grossest, most depraved and often most sexually depraved thoughts that plague preteens’ lives. So naturally the controversial talk show host came to mind.

“As a fan of Howard Stern, I think he would love this show as well because he talks so much about his life during this era of time for him and how important it is to the person he is now,” series star Jason Mantzoukas added. “I think he would really be into it.”

“I think he actually at one point mentioned it. But I think that Ronnie The Limo Driver is a Hormone Monster,” Kroll joked before adding, “We’ve been incredibly lucky that the people we’ve gone out to largely said yes to doing the show. We’ve been blessed with the most talented voice cast in animation.”

Out of all the main characters, Nick’s (voiced by Kroll) Hormone Monster has had the most turnover. First he was assigned the practically decaying Rick (Kroll) before transferring to the comically inexperienced Tyler (voiced by John Gemberling). But now that Nick is in the hands of Maya Rudolph’s Connie, he will finally explore the more feminine side of puberty.

Season 3 of Big Mouth premieres on Netflix Friday, October 4 at 3 a.m. ET.
