It’s officially October, which means it’s time for “Netflix and Chills,” aka a month of spooky content from the streaming service. First up is the new Netflix original film In the Tall Grass, an adaptation of the short story by Stephen King and Joe Hill. Directed and adapted by Vincenzo Natali (Cube, Splice), there’s really no better film to get you in the Halloween mood than this one. If you haven’t read the short story—which was originally published in 2012 in Esquire—you’re in for a treat.
The premise of the story is this: Two siblings—Becky and her brother Cal—are lured into a field of grass when they hear a little boy named Tobin calling for help. They quickly learn that this is no ordinary field—though they can hear each other, they are separated and unable to find their way back to each other or to the road. To make matters worse, Becky is six months pregnant. That’s no condition in which to be trapped in a hot, muddy, possibly murderous field of grass!
Newcomers Laysla De Oliveira and Avery Whitted star as the siblings Becky and Cal, while Will Buie Jr. stars as the little boy named Tobin. Seasoned horror actor Patrick Wilson (Insidious, The Conjuring) plays Tobin’s father Ross, and Rachel Wilson (no relation) plays Tobin’s mother Natalie. Trust us, this film is full to the brim with scares and should be on your must-watch list of horror films this October. But when?! When will In the Tall Grass be on Netflix?
