Everything to Know About ‘Let It Snow,’ the John Green Novel Soon-To-Be Netflix Movie with Kiernan Shipka

Halloween may not be here yet, but Netflix is already thinking about Christmas. The streaming service revealed the first poster and release date for Let It Snow on Thursday, an upcoming teen holiday movie based on the Let It Snow novel, a collaboration between authors John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle. The film is coming to Netflix next month on November 8.

The cast for the Netflix movie is stacked with current teen faves: Kiernan Shipka from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Odeya Rush from Goosebumps, Shameik Moore from Into the Spider-verse, Jacob Batalon from Spider-Man: Homecoming, Mitchell Hope from Descendants, and Isabela Moner from Dora the Explorer, Anna Akana from YouTube, Matthew Noszka from Star, Liv Hewson from Santa Clarita Diet and Miles Robbins from Halloween, as well as comedy queen Joan Cusack. The film is directed by Luke Snelin (Wanderlust) and written by Victoria Strouse (Finding Dory).

With a cast like that, we think it’s safe to say that this is going to be another big win in the teen romance category for Netflix. Here’s everything you need to know about Let It Snow.

What is the Let It Snow book about?

Officially titled Let It Snow: Three Holiday Romances, this holiday-themed young adult novel is three short stories that intertwine. Each story follows a different teenage stuck in Gracetown, North Carolina in a big snowstorm. The first story, “The Jubilee Express” from Mauren Johnson follows a young girl named Jubilee, whose train breaks down in Gracetown while she’s en route to visit to her grandparents in Florida. Jubilee is upset that she’s being forced to spend the holiday away from her boyfriend (who hasn’t, called, by the way), which she is doing because her parents were arrested for a ridiculous protest. But things start to look up when she meets a nice boy named Stuart who invites her into her to stay with his parents while she waits out the storm.

The second story from John Green, “A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle,” follows a boy named Tobin and his two friends, the Duke and JP. (It’s not a John Green novel unless the BFFs have weird nicknames.) While on their way to a Waffle House, where there are supposedly cheerleaders hanging out, the three get into a car crash. Much teen angst ensues, but eventually, everyone ends up in the right romantic relationship.

The third story from Lauren Myracle, “The Patron Saint of Pigs,” follows a girl named Addie, who has recently broken up with her boyfriend, Jeb. (We also meet at the Waffle House in the previous story.) When Addie’s friends tell her that the break-up was her own selfish fault, Addie offers to pick up her friend’s teacup pig as a favor, to prove she cares about others. Unfortunately, she forgets, and the pig is adopted to someone else. Now Addie must track down the new pig owner, and on the way, she runs into the couples from the previous two stories. It all comes together, and everyone’s happy in the end.

Who wrote Let It Snow?

Once again: Let It Snow was a collaboration between John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle, three young adult authors who were all friends living in New York City at the time. You likely know Green from his successful novels-turned-movies like The Fault in Our Star, Paper Towns, and the upcoming Looking for Alaska series on Hulu. Johnson is a New York Times bestselling author as well, whose works include 13 Little Blue Envelopes, Suite Scarlett, and my personal favorite, The Bermudez Triangle. Lauren Myracle is the bestselling author of, among other works, the popular text-based YA book series ttyl.
