What Is ‘Fuzzbucket’ on Disney Plus?

When it comes to a back catalog, Disney+ has nearly every streaming service beat. Mickey’s streaming service spent the morning tweeting out every single thing that will be available to stream when Disney+ launches on November 12. In all, over 600 movies and TV shows will be there waiting for you when you sign up. If you like classic Disney animated films, ’90s Marvel cartoons, the 2015 Muppets series, movies where Kurt Russell plays a computer, or everything Star Wars, then Disney+ is for you.

And, it turns out, Disney+ is also for you if you like furry monsters that happen to look like Fisher Stevens crossed with a possum. I’m talking, of course, about everyone’s favorite live-action Disney film Fuzzbucket!

Yeah, Fuzzbucket! We all remember Fuzzbucket, rewatching it over and over on VHS while playing with those rad Fuzzbucket Happy Meal toys. And we were all Fuzzbucket for Halloween in the late ’80s, duh. Heck, we all remember when Fuzzbucket released an album about the alphabet and plugged it with an appearance on Sally Jesse Raphael.

Oh, sorry, that was a glimpse into an alternate reality where Fuzzbucket was as big of a hit as Disney probably wanted it to be. Instead, Fuzzbucket is the most WTF-inducing title in an epic string of titles!

Seriously, what is Fuzzbucket on Disney Plus?

There’s a good reason you don’t remember Fuzzbucket: it was never released theatrically. Instead, Fuzzbucket originally aired in 1986 as part of the Disney TV anthology series The Wonderful World of Disney (then called The Disney Sunday Movie). Kids who tuned in for their weekly dose of Disney on May 18, 1986 were treated to the tale of Fuzzbucket, a creature who has one of the most upsetting tails I’ve ever seen.

Written and directed by Mick Garris (who later wrote Hocus Pocus and directed the TV adaptations of The Stand and The Shining!), Fuzzbucket is an invisible creature who pals around with a teen boy–and no adult believes the kid when he says there’s a fuzzbucket next to him.

Need more Fuzzbucket? You can watch this advertisement which begins with the truly wild narration, “What could be more adorable than a boy and his troll?”

The TV movie starred Chris Hebert as troubled teen Michael, and Phil Fondacaro (who also played the troll in Troll) as Fuzzbucket. The movie also stars Joe Regalbuto (Murphy Brown), Wendy Phillips (Big Love), and Robyn Lively (Light as a Feather).

Just because no one remembers Fuzzbucket, mainly because if you saw him in 1986 you definitely blocked him from your memory, doesn’t mean people aren’t HYPED for his return.

Fuzzbucket drops on Disney Plus on November 12. You’ve been warned.
