‘Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Shocks Pat Sajak When He Says He’s “Trapped In a Loveless Marriage”

That’s one way to make an entrance. On Monday night, Wheel of Fortune contestant Blair Davis bared his soul when he said in his introduction that he’s “been trapped in a loveless marriage for the last 12 years.” Davis went on to say that his wife “cursed” him with “three step-children” and a “rotten grandson,” an admission that threw host Pat Sajak for a loop. When he finally composed himself, the veteran host was ready to play ball. “No wonder you came here,” joked Sajak. “You just wanted to get away from everybody.”

At the beginning of the episode, Davis and his fellow contestants were given an opportunity to introduce themselves to viewers. “Blair Davis, Cardiff, California. You own a trucking business, it says here,” said Sajak, reading off a card. “Small trucking business in San Diego, yeah,” replied Davis. The host told him to “talk about [his] family,” and Davis didn’t skip a beat with his response.

“I’ve been trapped in a loveless marriage for the last 12 years to an old battle-axe named Kim,” said the Wheel of Fortune contestant. “She cursed my life with three step-children named Star, RJ, and Ryan. And I have one rotten grandson.”

Sajak laughed through Davis’ introduction, and when it became clear that there wasn’t more to the story — some terrible in-laws, or a wicked babysitter, perhaps? — he cut in. “Yay! No wonder you came here. You just wanted to get away from everybody,” said Sajak. “I know you’re being facetious… one would hope.”

“Absolutely,” replied Davis. “I love them like nobody’s business.”

Davis went on to explain the story behind his Duck Dynasty-esque beard, which has proven popular with the aforementioned rotten grandson. “I started growing the beard a couple years back, and every time I threaten to shave it off, he gives me a really hard time,” said the California native. “He’s grown really used to it.”

“Don’t get it tangle up in the wheel. That’s all we ask,” said Sajak. That’s quite an image to go out on, Pat.
