Megyn Kelly Demands NBC Conduct an “Outside Investigation” Into Matt Lauer Cover-Up Allegations

In totally unsurprising news, Megyn Kelly came out swinging in her first Fox News interview in nearly three years. On Wednesday night, Kelly sat down with Tucker Carlson to discuss allegations that NBC, her former employer, covered up sexual misconduct claims made against anchor Matt Lauer. During the 20-minute interview, the axed Today host accused NBC of committing a “legal sleight of hand,” and she demanded that the network “release any and all Matt Lauer accusers from their confidentiality agreements” so that they can tell their stories. Added Kelly, “There needs to be an outside investigation into this company.”

Kelly and Carlson had plenty to discuss during their Wednesday interview, particularly as new allegations continue to surface from Ronan Farrow’s new book, Catch and Kill. Lauer was fired in November 2017 after producer Brooke Nevils accused him of sexual assault, but Farrow’s book claims that the network paid hush money to cover up other allegations of sexual misconduct prior to his firing. The network has denied allegations of a cover-up. On Monday, NBC News president Noah Oppenheim said that they were unaware of Lauer’s alleged misconduct until Nevils came forward and added that no settlements have been paid.

NBC’s vehement denial didn’t sit well with Kelly, who was fired from the network in October 2018 after she defended blackface on her Today hour, Megyn Kelly Today. “That’s a legal sleight of hand,” Kelly said of the network’s “no settlements” defense. “You can get paid out as a sexual harassment victim in something other than a settlement. You can get what’s called enhanced severance. That’s the situation where the receptionist is suddenly getting a seven figure goodbye.”

While Kelly is likely still bound by certain NDAs — she replied “no comment” to one of Carlson’s questions — she insisted that NBC needs to “show us the money” as it relates to the alleged Lauer cover-up. “The number one thing that needs to happen now is they need to release any and all Matt Lauer accusers from their confidentiality agreements,” said the conservative personality. “NBC says they have nothing to hide, great. Let’s not hide anything. Show us all of the agreements, the enhanced severance agreements that were reached, or at least the numbers, so we can see which ones pop out.”

In addition to releasing accusers from their confidentiality agreements and providing monetary statements, “there needs to be an outside investigation into this company,” said Kelly. “They investigated themselves, that doesn’t work. Fox News had an outside investigator. CBS News had an outside investigator. NPR. The NFL. This is how it’s done. You get somebody on the outside who can be trusted.”
