Comic books aren’t all superheroes, you know. Comics have long told stories in multiple genres, and never is that more evident than with The Kitchen. The crime film about a trio of mob wives who pick up the slack for their husbands in the deadly and dangerous Hell’s Kitchen of the 1970s started life as a comic book series published by DC Comics mature-readers imprint Vertigo. Written by Ollie Masters with art by Ming Doyle, The Kitchen is about as far removed from Superman as you can get.
The film, written and directed by Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton), features a killer lineup of talent. Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss star as the wives of mobsters played by Brian d’Arcy James, James Badge Dale, and Jeremy Bobb. If you missed The Kitchen when it was in theaters this summer, you’ll want to check it out now that it’s available to watch within shouting distance of your own kitchen. But when will it be released digitally or on Blu-ray? And will The Kitchen ever be available on Netflix? We’ve got answers!
When will The Kitchen be released digitally?
The Kitchen will be available to purchase digitally on Tuesday, October 22–so it’s available now! You can purchase The Kitchen at full price on iTunes, Prime Video, FandangoNow, Google Play, Vudu, and wherever you like to buy digital releases. Also make sure you take into account that a digital code will come with the Blu-ray and DVD release when they come on November 5.
When will The Kitchen be available to rent digitally?
If you just want to rent The Kitchen instead of adding it to your digital library permanently, you will be able to rent it at a fraction of the purchase price beginning on November 5.
When will The Kitchen Blu-ray be released?
If you like owning movies physically, you’ll be able to put The Kitchen in your living room entertainment enter when it’s released on Blu-ray on November 5. The Blu-ray release also comes with a digital download code.
When is The Kitchen coming to DVD?
The Kitchen will also be available for purchase on DVD on November 5. The DVD copy will come with a digital download code, as well.
What special features will be included?
The Blu-ray release will come with two featurettes (“Running Hell’s Kitchen,” “Taking Over the Neighborhood”) and one deleted scene. The DVD version will come with the “Running Hell’s Kitchen” featurette.
When will The Kitchen be available on Netflix?
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that The Kitchen will stream on Netflix anytime soon as Warner Bros. doesn’t have a deal in place with the streaming service.
When will The Kitchen be available on HBO?
It’s very likely that The Kitchen will make its way to HBO, though, as WB movies tend to end up as the Saturday night HBO movie around 8 months after they open in theaters. With that in mind, it’s possible that The Kitchen will arrive on HBO around April 2020.
