One of the creepiest shows of the season isn’t on Netflix, Hulu, or any major network. It’s on Facebook Watch. But just how much of Jessica Biel’s haunting Limetown is based on a true story?

Created by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, Facebook’s new drama series follows the investigation of Lia Haddock (Biel), a journalist for American Public Radio. Years ago Lia’s beloved uncle moved to a scientific commune as part of an experiment. But a short time after Limetown’s founding all of its residents mysteriously disappeared, leaving the neuroscience research facility abandoned. As Lia tries to piece together what happened to this town she also searches for her missing uncle. Here’s everything we know about the possible truth behind this bizarre series.

Is Limetown Based on a True Story? Is Limetown True?

Thankfully no. If it was, that would mean 326 people had mysteriously disappeared and all of America had forgotten about it. Limetown is based on the narrative podcast series of the same name. Just like the Facebook Watch series, the Limetown podcast follows fictional reporter Lia Haddock (voiced by Annie-Sage Whitehurst), an investigator who’s obsessed with getting to the bottom of this missing town mystery.

Created by Two-Up Production, the first season of the podcast was released in July of 2015. Within two months of its release the fiction podcast became the No. 1 podcast on iTunes in the United States. Two seasons of the podcast have been released so far with Season 1 comprising of six episodes and Season 2 comprising of five.
