You can’t celebrate the Halloween season without revisiting a classic. And no classic is bloodier or more terrifying than Tobe Hooper’s 1974 masterpiece. A group of teenagers get lost in the middle of nowhere. It isn’t long before their road trip descends in a hellish battle against a family of hillbilly cannibals. Full of meat hooks, masks made of people’s flesh, and deeply unsettling dinners, Leatherface’s first on screen appearance is so much worse than you remember.

Robert Eggers’ directorial debut doesn’t hold back. Set in 1630s New England, the film follows a deeply religious family that’s terrified of witches. But as the film progresses it seems as though their fears are shockingly justified. Start watching to see  Anya Taylor-Joy at her best but keep watching for Black Phillip, your least and most favorite goat.

'The Sixth Sense' (1999)

In all honestly, this M. Night Shyamalan classic is more of a thriller than a straight up horror movie. At least, that’s what you’ll be telling yourself until you remember that nightmare-inducing vomit girl. As Haley Joel Osment’s panicked breathing and Toni Collette’s wide eyes will soon remind you, The Sixth Sense is so much more traumatizing than its final twist.

Dubbed the “scariest horror film ever,”this Spanish supernatural film is loosely based on true events. In Vallecas in the 1990s, Estefanía Gutiérrez Lázaro mysteriously died after using an ouija board. Much like its real world counterpart, the film follows the 15-year-old Verónica (Sandra Escacena) who conducts a seance to reach out to her deceased father. But connecting with the other side isn’t for the faint of heart. Directed by Paco Plaza, this scare-fest will leave you screaming.
